What is the average/common frontage width for 25/28mm Infantry and Cavalry bases? I am doing a re-design of some of our bridges and would like to make sure they are wide enough.

Thanks,
Dave

DBA multiple bases are 60mm wide for larger (typically 25/28mm) figures

I mount all my 25/28mm figures individually, the foot on 1" X 1" bases, the horse on 1" X 2" bases. My collection is probably approaching 1000 figures, mostly flintlock era but I've recently ventured into ACW.

I reckon on a 20mm frontage for foot and 20-25mm for horse.

I reckon Major B has got it right. Older 25mm foot would get onto a 15mm frontage, but modern 28mm really need 20mm and I use 25mm for some of my individually mounted Dark Age figures. All of my ECW 28mm foot are mounted on 40mm square bases, with 4 figures, and the cavalry in pairs on 50mm square bases.

I use 40mm x 40mm bases with 4 inf. in 2 ranks of 2.

I've just gone through this with my latest project.

COMMON 25-28mm FRONTAGES
Infantry: 20mm/figure
Large Infantry: 25mm/figure (e.g. Orcs)
Cavalry: 25mm/figure
Monster/Chariot: 40mm or 50mm depending on model
DBX Element: 60mm
WoK Troop/Regiment: 100mm to 125mm (150mm for big stuff!)

Trying to address War of Kings (WoK) might be too difficult. A bridge over 5" wide is probably pushing the limit.

The next step down would be something that can handle a DBX element, 3 infantry, or 2 cavalry with some wiggle room. That would be about 3" to 3.5" wide which could handle 3 cavalry with a tighter squeeze.

So I would say you want something at least 80mm wide wrt usable bridge surface, a little bigger if you want to allow for movement tray lips which can add about 8-10mm.
