Isn't FOW a bit of a dying franchise? Why not cover WWII gaming more broadly. Include Bolt Action and Chain of Command. |

What makes you say it's a dying franchise? I've seen no indication of it going away. |

I agree with nazrat, I'm not seeing any signs of it dying locally either. Still popular and still picking up new players. Bolt Action has grabbed a lot of new players at our club too but they have come from non Flames of War players. |

Bolt Action and FOW are very different games. They do not compete against each other. |

Isn't FOW a bit of a dying franchise? Why not cover WWII gaming more broadly. Include Bolt Action and Chain of Command. Not even close. They are still expanding (Pacific and even modern era). And although Bolt Action and CofC are great games, they are not the same type of games. If anything CofC and BA are competitors. As for me, I'm not a fan of skirmish games except on rare exception. |

It all depends on your local area. No one gamer can offer a view of 'whats hot, and whats not'. They can only comment on their personal gaming circle. FoW certainly seems to still be around, perhaps not as much as it used to be, but its happily still there from what I can see. Of course, locally, I don't know anyone who has even played the game… So its all a matter of your personal perspective. But my perspective is very particular to my group. |

FoW is dead in my area. Used to have 10-12 regular players on Saturdays. Haven't seen a game played in over 2 years now. Most moved on to Bolt Action. What time I am able to get up there I usually just play DBM. A real shame too, I enjoyed FoW. |

I visit two game clubs about an hour and a half away from me in opposite directions and there are two game stores in my local city. Locally the only thing with organized play is WarmaHordes. North of me the only real organized play is 40k and Xwing. South of me they have FoW tournies ALL the time, like 6-8 times a year between three store and another 2-4 from localish tournaments. Depends on your playerbase, but it's certainly not dead by any means. |

My experience has been consistent with both Maverick AND Whitphoto! At one FLGS, FoW's new TY stuff was so poorly received that it ended up on the discount table last month. Only then did it sell. Bolt Action is more popular there. A few miles up the road there's another shop where FoW WWII still sells well enough that it's well stocked, even if not to the same levels it once was. There's a small group there of 3-4 guys who meet every Sunday. I can't remember seeing a Bolt Action game there. The only major games I see on a routine basis at all shops are 40K, Warmahordes, and X-Wing. Tier 2 games would be Infinity, Dust and Bolt Action. FoW isn't quite dead in our area. But it's not nearly as strong as it once was. One glimmer of hope: at Siege of Augusta the FoW room was well attended. And note that it had its own ROOM and a fairly big one at that. Bolt Action only had a single strip of tables for its tourney. What was especially interesting was the demographics. It seemed to us that the majority in the FoW room was kids! The main gaming room was dominated by Grey Beards. The FoW room was much younger. That bodes well for the community at large. |
