On May the 28th, we will be hosting the Mighty Armies National Championships! There will be some pre-built armies on hand for those can't raise an army in time. There will also be awards for most original army and a 'best in show'!

I had a great time at Nashcon this year, and the highlight for me was getting to play my first game of Mighty Armies thanks to Mike Renager of Rebel Minis and David McBride of Splintered Light. I have been a long time DBX and HotT player so expected it to be very similar, and it is ….sort of. But then not really as you have to adopt a different mind set in Mighty Armies than any DBX based games.

Mike was a great teacher, and obviously has the patience of Job in helping me through the game. By the time we'd finished the game I felt I had a pretty good grasp of how to play it.

I also have to give a special thnaks to David for supplying the armies, and an extra special thnaks for letting me field a hare army, as he knows of our love of rabbits. So it could not have been any more perfect for me. I considered them as being rabbits for this game.

Here's Mike ruminating over his next move, either that trying to hide raucous laughter at my last move!

Had to get a picture of my Wonderful and Ever Victorious Rabbit Army. These figures were just beautifully painted by David too, and they truly are exquisite, which if any of you have ever seen his work already know.

And to be fair, I have to give equal time to Mike's evil predator army, also painted by David. Just lovely work! Lots of Homba and Elil!

The game would have come to a pretty abrupt end had Mike not pointed out that I probably didn't want to leave my magician exposed on my left flank after his support was taken out by mike's archers.

The bottom line is that I am genuinely hooked and although do not expect Mighty Armies to replace my playing of HotT, I do look forward to playing further games and becoming more proficient at it. I thought it was a great game that played well, played fast and required some good strategical thinking to pull off a win.

Sorry, but I have not figured out how to post pictures here without it showing the text as well. If anyone can advise me I would be grateful.

My sincere thanks to both Mike and David!

Terry
