I'm pretty stoked about these lads. All of the figures in this unit, were converted using KMM heads. It was a tedious process, full of hand drilling and lots of cursing. But in the end, I got what I wanted, which was a totally unique unit, clad in Hunting Shirts.
Most of the figures are Perrys, but there are Front Rank, Eureka, Foundry and an Old Glory in there somewhere.
I also need to decide which unit they represent.

As usual, the painting was done by John Bryant, who is the most prolific painter of miniature figures that I have ever known.

Look like New York militia at Saratoga to me.

I love KMM heads. They are fantastic for conversions like this.

Well come on, John. Let's see what you have done.

Why NY Militia? An particular reason?

Anyone else have a suggested Unit for these guys?

Winston Smith23 May 2016 7:09 a.m. PST

New York militia because they seem to be dressed warmly. grin

I'll get some pictures together.

Come to think of it, I would use them for any of the Continental units at Satatoga. Very few had uniforms anyway.

They just like they would be better on New York in October than North Carolina in August.

One of the supposed advantages of the hunting shirt was it was light weight enough to be worn in the summer, and roomy enough so in the winter you could wear warm clothing underneath. I have spoken with reenactors who dispute both of these claims. Regardless we do know that hunting shirts were worn in the south, perhaps in part because the campaigning season extended into the winter.

Very nice work.

I'm thinking that Stark's NH Militia might be good.

Thoughts?
