Which miniature games are currently popular at your local game store?

Mute Bystander21 May 2016 10:43 a.m. PST

Nothing I am buying unfortunately. Lots of cards and board games based on space utilization.

Saga at one and a variety at the other

Winston Smith21 May 2016 10:49 a.m. PST

Which miniature games are currently popular at your local game store?

If I had a local "game store" I might be able to answer the question!!

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian21 May 2016 11:16 a.m. PST

So "no local store" should be one of the poll options? evil grin

Night Owl III21 May 2016 11:17 a.m. PST

Frostgrave, Star Wars Armada, Kings of War, random board games.

Disco Joe21 May 2016 11:21 a.m. PST

Local is a 250 mile radius. X-Wing last I looked, but it has been a month…

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP21 May 2016 12:25 p.m. PST

250 miles would cover most of the UK from where I am, my nearest is a new one about 8 miles away. Popped in briefly and chatted with the owner but looks like they do mostly fantasy/sci-fi and the gamier sort of WW2 so not likely to see much of me.

Public transport links are lousy round here and it would take me the better part of an hour to get there and last bus back leaves about 7pm. After that a train takes about 75 min.

If I was a driver I'd have a reasonable choice of clubs and a few shops but I'm not.

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP21 May 2016 12:47 p.m. PST

Kings of War,FoG-R, 1/2400 naval.

JimDuncanUK21 May 2016 12:57 p.m. PST

Local game store? Never ever had one of those.

Bashytubits21 May 2016 1:22 p.m. PST

I don't have a local game store. Having to drive over 25 miles to get there is not close. Plus all they do there is Magic and Warhammer 40k.

shaun from s and s models21 May 2016 1:35 p.m. PST

game store?

Grimmnar21 May 2016 1:37 p.m. PST

FOW, Bolt Action, Flint and Feather, A Gentlemans War,

napthyme21 May 2016 2:13 p.m. PST

in Iowa local means driving for an hour just to find out they have nothing you want unless its magic, clix, yugiho or some such that everyone else sells.

They don't even know anything in miniatures exist beyond games workshop.

Stores close to me seems to be card games.

Oddly enough…I have a LGS that is approx 3 miles from me…but I usually wait to go to a store in Wisconsin when I want to hit a game store….

Hafen von Schlockenberg21 May 2016 5:10 p.m. PST

As with many of the above,my local store is all CCGs and GW,which is no help for me at all, except for amusement. I go by on occasion to check out the sale table, which at least sometimes has something interesting. I offered to run a FIW Desperado variant with a few Sash and Saber 40mm,which it now looks like I'm finally in a position to do. We'll see what the reaction will be.

In my "fantasy" scenario, there's a conversation like this:

GW Player--"Wow,these are really cool figures! What do they sell for?"

Me--"$45."

GW Player--"Hmm…Well,I guess that's not TOO bad. So,six figures would run me,let's see, $280 USD?"

Me--"What? No,sorry,for $45 USD you get 20 figures".

GW Player-- :O

I kid,I kid!

Couldn't say, having not been in one in eons, though there is still at least one local shop still in business.

The much larger, "go to" stores a bit further away have all closed their doors for various reasons, sadly.

zoneofcontrol21 May 2016 6:44 p.m. PST

Generic hobby shops, DIY stores and craft stores are about as close to it in the brick/mortar world. I do a lot of online browsing and much of my purchases are done at the dealer area of several cons I attend.

PrivateSnafu21 May 2016 9:36 p.m. PST

Coffee

Hadn't been in mine in 3 years or so and it looked mostly the same albeit they moved.

We have a very good local games store caled ENTOYMENT (run by Peter) in Poole dorset. Lots of gaming going on there. I believe X wing is the groovy thing at the moment.

Que? i hear of "game stores" all the time on the 'net, but have not seen one in years. Where there were one or two in the area, they are now gone…

Blake Walker22 May 2016 6:51 p.m. PST

It varies where I'm at. I haven't gamed in two months. So I don't know what's going on. Game Nite has Magic, WH40K, FoW, Infinity, Warmachine/Hordes, X-Wing, Star Wars Armada, and board games.

Wargamers Cave in Granite City, IL has some historical gaming, WH40K, WHFB, and occasional Warmachine. Like I said before, I haven't gamed in a while, so I don't know what's going on locally in St. Louis, MO.

wrgmr123 May 2016 10:03 a.m. PST

We have a large game store in the Greater Vancouver area run by a friend of mine. He sells lots of FOW. Also lots of models, comics, figures, books etc.

mbsparta23 May 2016 12:35 p.m. PST

1. Bolt Action
2. 30 and 40 K
3. X-Wings
4. Star Trek with ugly models
5. Kings of War
6. Ancients or TYW/ECW if I run it

No habla game store.

Kevin C23 May 2016 7:54 p.m. PST

I buy Wargames Illustrated magazines at my local game store (which is located about 45 miles from my house -- but for Oklahoma, that's close).

NobleHero24 May 2016 1:20 p.m. PST

I think around me it is mostly X-Wing still.

There are some Warmahordes and Kings of War players though, and I have heard that Guild Ball is starting to gain some traction. I do not make it in as often as I used to. Life in the way and all that.

ViscountEric24 May 2016 7:32 p.m. PST

1) Blood Bowl
2) Infinity
3) 40k

Only historical stuff that comes through the door is stuff I special order.
