When the US dug trenches for firebases and so on, did they line the floor with something? Wood slats, old ration cans, second Louises?

most of what I see is packed down earth on the ground and crates used for stairs.

The walls are a mixture of barrels, wood, and sandbags

I think I have seen a couple using pallets for maybe muddier areas.

At the berm line at our firebases we used dug in culverts when we could get them with boards from the projo boxes as flooring
This was for fighting positions at the gun positions
Also the bigger trenches sometimes used PSP for the walls

What is/are PSP?

"projo boxes" the boxes projectiles come in, i.e. 4.2" mortar rounnds, 81's, 105's, etc, come in wooden boxes. The rounds themselves are in waxed cardboard tubes, 2 or 3 to a box.

PSP Pierced Steel Planking – interlocking steel plates used to quickly surface an area, say for a runway.
