Can anyone help me with the accurate orbats and unit strengths for the above battle. I have the V&B scenario but rather than divisional strengths I require the individual unit strengths.

mghFond19 May 2016 9:32 p.m. PST

I wish I could help, I am painting units for that very battle currently. I believe the V&B scenario is done by the same gentleman who originally did a MWAN article where he put up the OOB for Isaszag, because he had division strengths.
I'm going to play the battle using Bloody Big Battles rules and my units are one base to the battalion so don't need exact individual unit strengths.

Good luck though!

If you have developed BBB lists for it, please let me have them, as I plan to do this using those rules but in 28mm

mghFond20 May 2016 2:10 p.m. PST

I have the original MWAN article which lists every infantry battalion and cavalry regiment by numbers of squadrons plus how many guns per corps.

How do I get this to you then?

Here you are. They are a little wonky because of the pasting, but usable.

Thanks McLaddie for doing that for Shipka. I was dreading typing all that out. It's your OOB from the old MWAN that I'm using for my painting project. I loved your articles and had it in mind for years to do this interesting and almost unknown war.

Two questions for you if you don't mind.

In your comments and line drawings about uniforms what you have on the Hungarian Nograder battalion confuses me. You say they wore regular Hungarian army uniforms, does that mean the white coats like some of the regulars wore during the war or is it the brown coats trimmed with red of the regular Honved?

Also in your paragraph you describe Nograder as wearing shakos, but the line drawing has the Nograder figure wearing one of those brimmed hats almost like a bowler. Not what I would call a shako for certain. Which is it?

I really appreciate all the info you have found on this period over the years. Thanks for having inspired a fellow wargamer!

mghFond:

Thank you. I'm glad you found the articles useful and inspiring. grin That makes the effort worth it.

Regular Hungarian uniforms were the brown coats with red cording and slat blue pants, much the same color as the Hungarians and later Union army during the ACW. You see a lot of uniform styles inspired by the Hungarian War.

The White coats were not that common. Early Militia, the first Polish battalions and one Honved battalion wore white coats as far as I know.

Also in your paragraph you describe Nograder as wearing shakos, but the line drawing has the Nograder figure wearing one of those brimmed hats almost like a bowler. Not what I would call a shako for certain. Which is it?

Yes, I can see how that would be confusing. No, they didn't wear shakos, but black brimmed hats with one side folded up sporting a green feather as shown. the Nograder battalion was used as a light infantry battalion.

It was a big, fascinating, unknown war, for sure. Glad you're getting into it. Love to see any pictures.

OK, thanks, I will paint them up with hats and green feathers then, I got some figs which will work. Oh and when I'm ready I promise you I will post pics of my two armies!

I am interested in seeing any line drawings of the Nograder Battalion as I am having figs made in 28mm

Shipka:

I can't find any. I am under the impression that they were dressed like the Light regiments, but with brown coats, green cording, med. blue trousers and a brimmed hat, one side turned up and a green feather in it.

However, I haven't seen a picture of the battalion uniform.

Durando05 Sep 2016 1:23 p.m. PST

It is when one gets to the regional militia and peasant dress, painting gets interesting
