Hello, all,

I've been at it again. This time with a minor conversion. I wanted to do Danish Infantry from the Schlewswig Holstein War, but wanted them to be after the red coat but still colorful. And this transitional uniform with the light blue cap and red/white strapping was my choice:

I picked Perry ACW Union Infantry In Sack Coats and Backpacks (ACW 33)…

….and I painted them to represent the former (or tried to). Given the slouch on the kepis, I wasn't able to do a consistent cockade (it just didn't come out looking right: too varied), so didn't do much more detail on the kepi. The photography washed the colors out a bit; the blues are one shade darker than they appear in the images.

Best, Ed M

Here is the lot:

Nice job. You could also use them for an early ACW state militia regiment if the mood strikes you.

Now there's an idea: actually use the figures for the ACW! laugh

Nicely done!

I like your ideas.

But wouldnt ACW in Frock coats not be better?

edmuel200018 May 2016 6:47 a.m. PST

Decebalus,

I did consider the frock coated figures. Nothing is exact, of course. The sack coat is a bit short, and the frock coat is long, going all the way to the knee. In the end, I felt that the sack coat was closer than the frock and also more consistent with the look I wanted. Certainly, someone else might come to a different conclusion or have another preference.

More than you were asking, but that's how I arrived at these.

Best,
Ed M
