On the Eastern Front, how late and in what quantities were the BA-6 armoured car deployed? I have read that due to their stationing amongst the Far East area, they survived much of the chaos of 1941 and were thus available for use against the Germans in 1942-1944. I'm curious because I just bought four of them (two boxes of the excellent Pegasus 1/72 model) and would like to know what years it would be "reasonable" to expect to find them in the field in an Eastern Front battle. |

HidaSeku: Generally speaking BA-6's were in service as armoured cars until late 1942 in The western Soviet Union. After 1942 they and the surviving BA-10's were taken out of service and replaced by fully tracked light tanks. However many had their turrets removed and served as gun tractors, troop carriers and transport vehicles. Captured BA-6's fought on until 1944 in Finnish service. Also the Germans had some Spanish manufactured armoured cars in 1941-42 which were all but identical in outside appearance to the BA-6. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

I thought the BA-10 stayed in use for recon use throughout the war. Think I saw one in the movie "The Monument Men". |

Gamershs. Monuments men featured a BA64 which was seen through to the end of the war. However, I also thought the BA10 soldiered on in a support/recon capacity for a while into 1943. |

I usually relegate them to tank brigade HQs after 1942. A fine ride for the Brigade commander:) |

There are photos of BA-10s being used in recon role on the Finnish front at least in 1944. I believe they stayed in use until the end of the war and possibly beyond. |

Very good information, all. Rod, sounds like 1942 is the way to go, which is perfect as 1942 happens to be my favorite period to wargame on the Eastern Front. Thanks! |

Finnish Front late-war, mentioned by 7dot62mm, seems most plausible as, north of Leningrad, the attrition of older kit seems to have been much lower – and also the lowest priority for new kit. After all, the Soviets were still able to scrape together enough of the old light tanks (T-37s and 38s) to conduct an amphibious attack up there in 1944. |

The Finnish front is a good idea. I know the KV-1 tank was used more up there as well (due to the older kit in general) and using KV-1 tanks and some BA-6 cars to support them sounds like the makings of a fun game! |
