My latest project, with the US Army fending off some pesky aliens.

Plan for future installments to have some ruined urban terrain and vehicles; still working out the rules.

And, as always, my weekly battle report roundup:

Nice! I can see lots of new game potential with my Tau forces

Be interested in your rules once you get done with them

Great AAR! Loved the photos and 'play-by-play.' I like the sound of your rules. One of the reasons I haven't gotten more into this type of gaming is because the earthlings usually wind up getting pasted by the offworld nasties and that's just not appealing to me (YMMV).

Wargamer Blue15 May 2016 12:29 p.m. PST

That looks like a lot of good fun.

Reading your AAR I was struck by fight at the road block.

Intact/functioning cars (with full gas tanks) actually make poor cover especially against any kind of high-energy weapons. One hit in the right place and the car, and the troops behind it, go boom.

Rubber Suit Theatre15 May 2016 5:29 p.m. PST

No, they don't. It's really hard to get the gas tank to go off as a secondary (and it's pretty limited when it does). Something about 50 years of automotive engineers pouring inconceivable amounts of money into avoiding that sort of thing. They don't stop bullets very well, though. Just speaking from experience. You wanna go with the Hollywood "every civilian vehicle is really just a VBIED waiting to happen", have at it.

Normally I'd be inclined to agree but when its "US army vs aliens", I'd probably lean on hte side of Hollywood :)

I would love to hear a bit of the Back Story on your aliens;
"Do we know anything about where they came from?"
"Was this there 1st appearence on Earth?"
"Were there other incidents around the world that put us on alert?"

*Frederick,
I never really had interest in the Tau, granted the armor does look cool. But something about the Kroot, perhaps just the more 'savage' look, but had no reason for getting them myself. Reconsidering that now.

*Rubber Suit Theatre,
Like a lot of others, I trusted Hollywood in my youth (sad) and used to believe that one car + one shot = BOOM. In reality, Not so.
However considering it is a "Sci-Fi" based wargame, AND depending on what type of weapons you give your aliens, I would say the one shot 'kill' would be a reasonable option.

Part time gamer,

Stay tuned for another post with a game in the Middle East. I'm letting the background become clearer with additional games.
