Working on some 1/285 scale terrain with a laser cutting outfit nearby. My first go at some simple, robust bridge designs. GHQ Sherman model shown for scale. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with a first go at designing something like this.

Designed for large ground scales (1" = 50 or 100 yards) so you can have modern bridges that aren't a full click long! These are cut from 1/8" plywood. Would probably sell for $3 USD-4 each, maybe less.

What do you think of the *concept*? Designs need obvious improvement.

Very nice start Extra Crispy. A very solid start.

They're looking good!

I like them.

And I think they would work as "small" bridges in 15mm too.

They should be able to make a good cheap 15mm Pegasus Bridge. Ahem. >cough cough<

Looks good to me. Can you scale some up to 20-25mm? I'd buy a couple.

@Rich: I could but in the big scale without "detail" they'll look awful plain. How long would you want them to be? A straight translation in scale would make them about

@Winston Smith: Foot bridges maybe. The road surface is only 1" wide or so.

My plan for the next run is to make the sides thinner and less bulky (but still strong enough for gaming use) and to add some extra trusses to upgrade the looks of the things.

Important Note About Costs: Material cost is small as a proportion of the final price. What drives price is cutting time. So these simple bridges take a few minutes each. Pegasus Bridge, with 12,000 intricate parts to get all the detail right, might cost $100 USD just because it ties up the cutter for 4 hours. But if you'll live with a very plain Jane Pegasus….

This has a crap ton of detail and parts. A laser cutter would take a long time to cut that.

Oh…..

Yeah it's kinda like clay in that regard.

Clay: $5 USD
Time to shape clay: $95 USD
Nice Vase: $100 USD

I like them Simple and effective. I agree with you that upscaling them they would probably look kinda bland.

Well done!

The pieces look out of scale to me -- like the girders are too wide -- assuming that tank in the picture is the right scale. I think the shapes are fine, but can the girders be made thinner?

Yup. Next iteration cuts them all down by 50% (from 1/8" to 1/16"). Any thinner and I worry about survivability…
