There are a million ways to be killed or wounded on the modern battlefield: bullets, bombs, drone strikes, a tomahawk-wielding SEAL Team 6 operator. But dogs? For jihadists squaring off with Western forces in the Middle East, the threat is real, and a group of ISIS militants learned that lesson the hard way when they recently ambushed a group of elite British commandos with the Special Air Service in Iraq. And they (or their corpses) have the bite wounds to prove it.

ISIS… It's what's for breakfast!

McGruff says, "take a bite out of ISIS."

Once again the US flaunts international law by breaking animal quarantine laws. When will the president and first-lady be forced to appear on Iraqi TV to apologize for their heinous foolishness in a shame-faced public service broadcast? Humm, deppends! Of course now the Kurds are happy because the US has provided them with Cur-dish allies that can also be K-9-rations. : )
Cheers.

Of course, now ISIS will start targeting the dogs…..

The psy-war implications are interesting. Muslim fanatics hate dogs because there's a hadith against dogs, often won't allow service dogs in their taxis…what could be a worse death for a mujahid than to be mauled by dogs? Eaten by swine, maybe. Actually, pigs are pretty intelligent animals. Wonder if we could train some as attack swine?

cwlinsj11 May 2016 9:48 a.m. PST

Pigs are too smart. They can fight, but they won't go into danger on command.

Also would be very bad PR to enter muslim countries with pigs.

Islam is (traditionally) not very friendly to canines.

Am I alone to wonder if the uncleanness (from the insurgents point of view) of it is intentional?

The Hound11 May 2016 10:00 a.m. PST

Moslems hate dogs because they think they are unclean because they slober. They love cats though

steamingdave4711 May 2016 10:23 a.m. PST

I see the story is from the Sunday Daily Star. Must be true then!

cwlinsj11 May 2016 10:28 a.m. PST

Dogs ate carrion and the dead, which is why they are unclean.

Rubber Suit Theatre11 May 2016 11:05 a.m. PST

The dog isn't primarily a weapon. They've been used for a very long time due to the fact that their keener smell and hearing are very useful for scouting and sentry work, notably finding booby traps and detecting ambushes. That being said:

A pity we can't train wild boar to do this kind of stuff, but I'm okay with the dogs as well.

Good news.

May be of use in liberating Alpo in Syria?

paulgenna11 May 2016 3:08 p.m. PST

Pork attack. Didn't the Romans use to light the pigs on fire and send them after the enemy?

jdginaz11 May 2016 3:18 p.m. PST

"Dogs ate carrion and the dead, which is why they are unclean."

Pretty much all carnivores eat carrion at one time or another including cats which the don't seem to have problems with.

And here was I hoping for a Michael Vick story.

Paulgenna maybe apocryphal but supposedly the Romans used burning/Flaming pigs to chase elephants.

Good to learn that we have dogs in the fight.

I like dogs better than some people … including some here on TMP … evil grin

That being said, if true, I don't see radical islamists, jihadi terrorists being "dog chow" a bad thing.

I think we should start a rumor like had been done in the past, about we use pig fat to grease our bullets. We are dealing with a primitive religiously based backward culture. Who are afraid of dogs and don't eat pork … evil grin
