Inspired by the BBB gamers over in Istanbul and using the Order of Battle and maps they have provided (see previous posts in this section), we fought a battle inspired by Kaceljevo-Ablava which saw the Turks attacking for a change. The Turks made swift progress taking Kaceljevo with the loss of only one battalion and, thanks to a dashing action by their irregular and regular cavalry, the village of Ablava as well. The Russians made slow progress in getting their reserves to the front line via the narrow gorge. In fact, their cavalry was uncharacteristically routed from the field by inferior but numerically inferior Ottoman cavalry. The game was declared a clear victory for the Ottomans, the Russians having to retire from the field to save face. Unfortunately the famous Gorloff guns (Russian Gatlings) never managed to make it to the front!

Nice, thanks, Ostrowski – but I'm very disappointed we didn't get to see the Gorloff guns in action!

Excellent. I love your figures. Truly a glorious tide of blue!

I just have to correct that Chris was the maker of this scenario, as of most the 1877 scenarios. But we will play it and I will tell you how things turned our for us!

Truly wonderful game! Bravo from Turkey!

Great looking game. I love the grey bearded gent leading the Bashi-Bazouks. Hope to see more. I have a largish collection of RTW 15mm figures (approximately 1,000) that haven't seen the light of day for over a decade. This is the kind of inspiration I need to get them back out.

Good looking game.
Which figures do you use?

Brownbear,

I'm sure Ostrowski will correct me if I'm wrong, but I recognize the majority of the Turks and Russians as plastics from Strelets. They're about 20mm and fairly easy to paint. Love these figures, really and if you're on a budget, they're the best way of building up large armies.

Excellent looking game! Glad to see a Turkish victory too!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the figures are mostly Strelets – you can buy a box for under £5.00 GBP and get 2 battalions of 24-28 figures per battalion per box!
Some of the Russians are from Hat's WWI range painted in the white smocks and peaked caps.
Ragbones – get the 15mm collection out again!
KTravlos – look forward to seeing how your refight plays out.

Thanks,
never thought I would like 20mm plastics
