I originally asked this question in another thread, but thought it might be better to start a new one for it. After the Observation Corps was disbanded and incorporated into the Artillery as fusiliers, what was the uniform? Kronoskaf ( link ) starts by saying that the regular fusiliers wore the same uniform as the artillery, but the detailed listing gives the uniform as light blue coat, orange waistcoat, white breeches ( rather than red, white, red given for artillery ) . Is the first reference to the cut/style of the uniform rather than the colours? Or does it refer to the fusiliers who were part of the artillery regiments rather than the ones who came from the disbanded Observation Corps, with those being in the blue/orange/white? Does anyone know what flags ( if any ) the new fusilier regiments carried? I was thinking of painting some of the spares from my regular infantry as fusiliers to add to artillery and limber bases and maybe as formed units. |

It would sure make a colorful unit with the orange long-sleeved waistcoats, white pants, and black gaiters with grenadier miters. Jim |

If the Russians followed the Austrian convention for artillery fusiliers, the men would be wearing the same uniform as the artillery crew. Presumably they would be considered to be part of the artillery organization. |

Oh my, given that description I may just have to start painting them again. Think I'll go check my bitz box right now. |

@ ColCampbell – that was what I was thinking. It would definitely add a touch of interest to the sea of green and red. @ Der Alte Fritz – I'm wondering if it might have been deliberate to distinguish them from the fusiliers in the gunner companies of the field artillery regiment and from the infantry (particularly in summer dress). @ 21eRegt – oh dear, I seem to have started something! |

I had a few spare musketeer figures (ones whose bayonets had snapped off during prep – grrrr!), so I decided to paint them up in the two different fusilier uniforms. I'll add them to gun, limber and wagon bases at some point. Teaser piccy:
