On another thread about your favorite theater of the war…

TMP link

…I mentioned that North Africa is my favorite and a number of other folks have chimed in as well that North Africa is one of their top areas to collect and war game. Now for 15 mm and smaller there are tons of scenarios that one can find for the war game table. However for 28 mm it understandably becomes a bit more difficult. So any online sources folks want to share of scenarios that would work in 28 mm for North Africa, or do you have ones of your own or know of that you would offer?

These can be based on actual historical accounts or be made up.

Thanks

What level of game are looking for? Battalion level, Platoon level, squad level?

kallman08 May 2016 5:09 p.m. PST

In most cases platoon level as in 30 or more infantry per side with support as in HMGs and perhaps some armor or other heavier support such as AT guns. But I could go for smaller or up to as large as company level.

Ok, so 1:1 figure scale, then. At that level, I would look at doing actions during Ithe siege of Tobruk. Maybe a night raid on the lines. Armor support for the British would be limited to carriers or perhaps a Matilda or captured M13-40. Similarly, at that time, the Germans generally kept their tanks massed and infantry holding the siege lines would be without any kind of armor support. Perhaps more interesting would be a rcoonasiance in force by one of the mobile columns used by Rommel during his first attack.

Yes 1:1 ratio. I personally have a lot of options. I have both platoon strength forces for the DAK and Commonwealth forces, i.e., what becomes 8th Army. I have plenty of vehicles for both sides ranging from early as in April 1941 to later when the battle moves to Tunisia and Operation Torch.

What I lack are Italians, Vichy French, some of the native troops, and of course Italian and French vehicles for the theater. I have plenty of terrain both rugged desert and adobe buildings and palm tress for some more urban battles. Of course you can always use more bits and bobs to spruce up the table.

Skirmish Elite: Aussies at Bardia

Skirmish Elite: Crete – Stalemate in the East

Skirmish Elite: Struggle for Maleme-Invasion of Crete

SkirmishCampaigns: Italian Misadventure and the Arrival of the DAK

I've got a couple of Scenarios on my blog for 28mm Desert games, both early war, one for Beda Fomm and one for Opera Brevity.

Hope these are of use to some.
