I see BIG claims on Facebook or other media claiming amazing sculpts you can make with your 3D printer, but I am dubious. Does anyone have informed opinions/information on where we are now, and where we may be in a few years, on the print-yourself-at-home industry for miniatures? |

Some manufacturers 3dprint their masters. it is a slow process and suitable for mass production. |

I have a cheap, low-end printer. The resolution is good enough for rough and ready miniatures. But, as a poster above says, speed of printing is an issue. I looked at printing enough figures to do a Dwarf army for 'Hordes of the Things' in 15mm – about 30-40 miniatures – and I was looking at 12-18 hours. Larger figures would, obviously, take proportionally longer. However if you have one, then all you need is the 3D model of something downloaded or done yourself if you have the skills – and within the limitations above you can churn the piece out again and again with little effort. |
