There's a marathon tonight of Ancient Astronaut 'documentaries'. I'm not the one watching them, but I can hear them from my workbench. I'm not a 'believer'. However, it seems to me there could be a game in here somewhere. Egyptians and pyramid power versus Nostradamus versus Zoroastrians zipping around in some kind of flying bird cart versus Elijah and his flying saucer. Extraterrestrials, human accomplices, wacky tech, maybe some time travel… whip it all together, you've got a game! |

Bill, first off, it is 'Ancient Aliens' Second, there is already a game, available for download, based upon the TV series. |

Ahh, the mysterious Slann. I do wonder, however, if some things lost to the mists of time should be left there forgotten; you, I and all those generations to come, can remain ignorant and safe from knowledge that burns.

I am now re-reading The Iliad, but through the lens of an "ancient astronaut theorist". I am a fan of the series but not the theory – I watch it as an intro to interesting archaeological sites and historical events: note down the name and then check wiki for the "mainstream" info. The "ancient astronaut theorists" don't actually have any coherent theory or narrative. It literally is…

While I enjoy the show for its megalithic coverage, the conclusions they wish to arrive at are often…stretched. |
Legion 4 | 07 May 2016 7:30 a.m. PST |
I love the series … but it should be on the SyFy Channel … That being said, in some cases it can be a bit evocative. But in many cases it is a bit of a stretch … or just plain goofy. But again I like sci-fi with a little "reality"/history mixed in. E.g. A Bigfoot – UFO Connection … Lizardman alien race that now lives in underground tunnels … The hole in at the South Pole that leads to a completely under ground alien civilization … Etc., etc. … but makes for some good gaming ideas … But you all won't be scoffing when the Annunaki come back to see how we are getting along …

War Monkey, no I have no link. I just noted the ad which popped up on the History channel while I was channel surfing. Suggest you go to History.com or historychannel.com or whatever the website is. It might be there. |

Unfortunately for his family, my brother truly, seriously believes in the Anunnaki. And that the end days are coming. He always was the suggestible one. joined the Moonies when he was 20. |

The show has some of the best archaeology on TV, which is mostly why my wife and I enjoy it, but the conclusions they draw seem very far-fetched. The theme serms to be "ancient humans were too stupid to figure this out on their own, so they must have had help." I disagree. |
Legion 4 | 07 May 2016 9:34 a.m. PST |
Yes, you certainly get to see a lot of ancient locations and sites, etc. you generally don't see or hear about anywhere else. Aliens not withstanding … The theme serms to be "ancient humans were too stupid to figure this out on their own, so they must have had help." One could say that still holds true in some cases today … |

What's really interesting to me is that Giorgio, pictured above, is actually a Centauri from the documentary series Babylon 5. |
phssthpok | 07 May 2016 11:26 a.m. PST |
Yes, I've toyed with the idea as well. The show is a great laugh as is "Mountain Monsters" which I call "The Blair Hillbilly Project". Also refer to Giorgio as "wishnik", could it be that his hair hides a ring in the top of his head? |

I completely believe the chronology of Immanuel Velikovsky in his series of books such as Worlds in Collision. This belief has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that I have Egyptian, Assyrian, Greek and Persian armies and like the idea of being able to have them fight each other without it being in any way anachronistic. |

The ancient aliens stuff it a lot of fun. Be sure to check out Stargate, SG-1, and Ian Douglas' novels. Great gaming fodder there. |

funny as the show my wife was watching one day. It was about a strange rock building in rhode Island or somewhere in that area. All these nuts came forward with weird ideas on what the building could be. In 5 minutes on the internet I had found the historical records and the man who had built it to use as a mill in the late 1600's. There was even a historical plaque by the building with the info. All I could think was why waste an hour of tv time on something anyone could look up in minutes and debunk your whole program. |

My wife and I love watching these shows. After a while, one of us is likely to say something to the effect of, "could it be, as astronaut theorists contend, that there is ice cream in the freezer? And could that ice cream be combined with fresh raspberries to make a tasty late-night snack? Ancient astronaut theorists say yes!" |

All I know is, the Von Daniken popularity made Hanna-Barbera introduce The Great Gazoo into "The Flintstones". And look how well that turned out. |

Back to the original idea of game inspiration: Combine the Ancient Astronauts with Larry Niven's manna based civilization in prehistory. The aliens came here to steal(and fight over) our manna thus leaving us without magic now. Also I think the Great Gazoo predates "Chariots of the God's". |

Why not Ancient Mutants or Ancient Mutant Aliens? Though if we don't know the Ancient Regular Aliens we don't know if they are mutants or not. |

Before getting brow beaten by my brother, I wanted to make the setting that we're working on branch off into the epic of Gilgamesh… Complete with an orbital attack that would cause the great flood and destroy most of human civilization up until that point. John Brandenburg wrote a book called Death on Mars where he theorized that Mars' ecosystem was destroyed by atomic warfare. It's a pretty fun read if you can take it too seriously. |
