In the absence of a standard bearer, it's usually an NCO with a sabre. |

Those are BIG plumes. Wow! Surprised they can balance their heads when moving |

The plume colours look wrong to me. There should be lace on the collar and cuffs for the NCO. Stephen |

what is wrong with the plume colours? They are spot on – also the size of them, the Bavarian cavalry was renowned for that. Otherwise Kobell must be wrong as well, which of course he isn't
Dr Summerfield – what is your source about the collar and cuffs for the NCOs??? |

The base of the officer's plume is light blue. I have never seen that. My recollection was that the Bavarians would follow Austrian or Prussian practice. They did so in the 7YW. Not with my books. Thanks for the correction. Stephen |

I wonder how wonderful those big white plumes were in a wet snowstorm with a strong wind with 40 mph gusts. Snap a neck here and there? |

This is getting interesting. Call me sad for saying that. I know not one thing about Bavarians, because, even allowing for their marvellous uniforms, not a single one featured when it really mattered, south of Brussels. But when von W and Summer comment I have to ask could there be an error here? |
von Winterfeldt | 09 May 2016 1:06 p.m. PST |
no error about the plumes, the extraordinary heights are confirmed by text sources as well, and yes Bavarian officers were quite an extravagant bunch and violeted ever so often any regulations, the feathers are really light weight compared to the heavy helmet. I applaud the Perrys to have the guts and done the homework to sculpt such extraordinary figures supported by eye witness accounts and excellent pictural evidence. I checked by references, for officers plumes – as depicted by the painter of Perry miniatures – is confirmed. @Deadhead don't forget Thurn und Taxis who kept a diary with a lot of interesting information about the action which happened South of Bruxelles – in case I am not mistaken he was a Bavarian liason officer along with Blücher's Army. |
