To my Anerican cousins: Tell me does a "Provisional Event List" ever become an Actual Event List? |
pzivh43 | 06 May 2016 8:13 a.m. PST |
Day of the event. And then subject to changes. |

Oh yeah! My game is in there. Starts @ 7pm Fri & Sat. The Blue Max. The Book, the Movie, the Game. Come on out and die in the skies of WW1! Peter board2deathterrain.com |

Major B, the acronym is "Program Event List"… I am not familiar with any American referring to a PEL as "Provisional Event List"? |
Kelly Armstrong | 06 May 2016 9:27 a.m. PST |
Wrong. P=Preliminary. v/r, Captain Pedantic |
Dervel | 06 May 2016 9:33 a.m. PST |
Kelly, thanks for that… yes I have heard Preliminary also… Not "Provisional"… Sound's British to me :P I was simply poking fun at Major B and his "accent" :) |

Yay! My Battlegroup games for Monty's Epsom are there at six on Friday and noon on Saturday. Looking forward to running it (and having all these Brits I am working on done). |

Thanks for posting the link, Dervel. In addition to the PEL, the Tournament information is also available. Many thanks to the hard working Historicon staff members (they know who they are) for posting the PEL and to all the GMs and Clubs (they also know who they are) for submitting the events. Hope to see you there. |

Wish I was going to be there. Maybe next year. |

It is "Preliminary" because events submitted after the deadline for inclusion in the PEL (which is posted on line as above), can be included in the program still if submitted by that deadline. If submitted after the Program deadline, events can still be added but they may be on an addendum sheet or just available by going to the on site game registration desk. |

My game is in there as well! S-321 "Hammer of the Scots". |

At some mysterious point in time I believe it goes from a "Preliminary Event List" to a "Program Event List". It is a miraculous transformation, yet it does not make the acronym change. It is one of the many powers of the Dice Gods. |

So, since this nice looking online PEL is freely available, what is HMGS's excuse for closing game registration a mere 3 weeks after Cold Wars? Pre registration doesn't begin for another week. So what if games added at this point don't make the print book. You simply refer people to the website so they can see whats up. This is 2016, not 1986. |

TSD101, Agreed, the time to close GM registration is when the con's games organizer needs to finalize table assignments. And why is the PEL a PDF versus: A listing with search and filter functions? Where clicking on a link for a game adds it to your pre-registration? Also, why is pre-registration not open as soon as Cold Wars is done? And why does it close a whole month before the convention? It does seem as though the processes are stuck in the last century. |

And why is the PEL a PDF versus: A listing with search and filter functions? Because PDF is the universal format that works on all platforms. And every PDF reader I've ever seen has a search function built-in. Also, why is pre-registration not open as soon as Cold Wars is done? And why does it close a whole month before the convention? Because someone will want to sign-up for games. Hard to do that without the games, isn't it. So what if games added at this point don't make the print book. You simply refer people to the website so they can see whats up. This is 2016, not 1986. Because some of your gamers can't/won't refer to the website. Not everyone is as computer literate as you'd like to think. |

"So, since this nice looking online PEL is freely available, what is HMGS's excuse for closing game registration a mere 3 weeks after Cold Wars? Pre registration doesn't begin for another week." As far as I know game registration is NOT closed, you just won't be in the PEL if you register it after April 15. Game registration goes on until June 3 if you want to be in the printed program book. And it's that way because it is. |

If you download the PEL, the bookmarks and advanced search feature is activated. Enter a search term in the advanced search box and it will return a list of all events in which the term is mentioned. If you want a list of all games for a given rules set, or all games put on by a GM for example, you get it. If anyone wanted to step forward and create a fully interactive PEL that ties into registration, that would be wonderful. We need volunteers like that in order to get things done. |
