Hey all!

Thought I would share three recent posts…

First up, a *really* in-depth look at Sam Mustafa's new spaceship game (yes, you read that right… space ship game!) "Freejumper." Unlike Armada or X-Wing, the game is almost like a role playing space ship game, allowing the player to design a custom spacecraft (using cards, which makes it rather simple) and then go to battle against other folks, managing the systems and keeping the ship going as lasers sear across your hull and viruses eat away at your computers! I give a detailed rundown on the basic mechanics, but overall I can say the game is SUPER fast, very low maintenance and upkeep, rather elegant in its simplicity, and a great "big bash with the buddies" game… definitely worth a PDF purchase and a free download for you Grand Armee/Maurice/Longstreet/Aurelian/Blucher folks who never imagined playing a space ship game:)

Also I posted another shot or two of my latest "Retreat from Moscow" Perry French…

And finally, a peek inside a GREAT old book I've had for years that would be interesting to ALL war gamers… and which is for sale on Amazon for like a buck! I included shots from Waterloo, Saratoga (below), Gettysburg, and Blenheim, but it covers a WIDE range of wars through time.

Anyway… come on by and take a look!

There were a couple of those books – I had at least three I think, including the ACW one – probably still got them somewhere – will go and hoik them out I think.. inspiring

Yep! Great Battles of the World, Great Battles of the Civil War… hmmm… I know there was another… WWII? I don't remember… but they are great for ideas for tables and layouts for games.

I just realized… "Great Battles of the Civil War" is sitting right in front of me:)

Has anyone out there given Freejumper a shot yet? Haven't heard anyone talking about it yet!:)

Here's a post from someone on TMP: TMP link

I assume the same fellow on LAF: link

I've been hearing it was coming, not that it was out until these posts.

I always thought that Mustafa's head was in the clouds. I was wrong, it it was lost in space. LOL

I love the 1812 miniatures. Makes me cold looking at them.

The book looks interesting but it only contains 2 Napoleonic actions, namely Austerlitz and Waterloo. But great value if you can obtain it for a one penny.

Freejumper? Little interest?

Could it be because this is the ACW board?

Could it be there's not much interest in Space games?

Could it be Sam has Jumped the Shark?

Or, all of the above!

'This' is many boards for a post that has many parts.

Those of us who are mainstream gamers, you know, spaceships, are quite patient with mention of moribund offshoots.

;->=

Actually, if anyone complains, it should be the Star Wars crowd.

Doug

Lord Ashram08 May 2016 7:55 a.m. PST

Actually, I included the Star Wars group because I had had a conversation with some friends over a game of Armada about how Freejumper could easily be used for custom made Star Wars ships and battles:)

And as was pointed out yeah, this post covered several topics and boards. Recently I'm trying to condense several topics into one post to minimize how many overall posts I need to make:)

Trajanus08 May 2016 9:47 a.m. PST

Lord A,

Does this mean I can expect a post on this board when "Rommel" is released? :o)

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP08 May 2016 10:34 a.m. PST

Lord A, I figured as much; they could counter 'so show us…' ;->=

Are you reducing number-of-posts because it's hard to track? You can use 'Search' by 'Authors' for yourself which works for moi.

Lord T, if I may borrow a Gerry Anderson-ism (Okay, earliest I can find it is Heraclitus), Expect the Unexpected!

Hey all,

I don't know much about Rommel… I suppose if I play it I'll post about it, but I am not much of a WWII fellow:)

I actually wanted to cut down because I felt like I was maybe overwhelming folks a bit on the blog forum by having too many posts. Also, I figure it might give folks who might not normally check something out enough of a peek to grab their interest… for example, an American Civil War gamer might enjoy seeing the Viking objectives I made. I myself have found lots of interesting things that way.

Great Battles of the Civil War…

Had that one until I found waaaaay too many factual errors in it for my liking. Ended up giving it away.

Well guess what, I love a good bargain so I did a search and managed to obtain a copy of a Great Battlefields of the World by John Macdonald for 1p (plus £2.80 GBP postage).

Not a brilliant book in terms of detailed accounts and mine arrived with a small dent in the bottom left outside corner, but what great value and generally in very good condition. It covers quite a variety of actions from the Republican Romans, English Civil War, Crimean War, through to early to an early Vietnam action involving the French. The coverage of each action varies from four to six pages, with Austerlitz having 8 and Waterloo 10.

The coverage is okay, albeit the action descriptions appear to be more of a brief and general overview, and there are no orders of battle. On the one hand it is a shame there are only two Napoleonic actions covered but it enjoyable reading about the actions from other historical periods. It even includes The Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Although probably not a title that will be referenced or quoted from, overall it is a little gem of a book and one can't really complain for one penny.

Lord Ashram11 May 2016 12:49 p.m. PST

Hah! Yeah, I gave a link on my blog where you can get it for a buck. For a dollar it is TOTALLY worth it, and not a bad thing to keep on hand if you want a little inspiration for a table, you know?
