Hello, Has anyone wargamed the Battle of San Antonio 1835? |

You mean the siege of the Alamo? If you're talking about the Texans besieging the Mexican army in October 1835, I've always heard it called the Siege of Bexar or the Siege of San Antonio de Bexar. Never wargamed it. |

Yes, siege of Bexar is correct. |

I'm not sure it would be much of a game on a larger scale. The Mexican cavalry either misunderstood their orders or just tooke off, and the remaining infantry have to decide if they are going to try and hold the mission (the Alamo). However, at a smaller scale (Sharp Practice?) you have the Texans trying to break into the fortified town, and then some house-to-house fighting. |

I remember it being listed as an event at one of the HMGS-East conventions a few years ago. Maybe around 2012? Seemed a reasonable thing to try gaming if you already owned terrain and figures for 1836. I saw the comment a couple of times in movie-making circles that the more famous a building or a prop was, the less use it tended to see, and we're subject to the same thing. If you built a replica of the Spanish mission at "Old Tucson" which was used in a score of westerns, you could use it in skirmishes or Wild West games forever. But if you built the Alamo, and used it for any place but San Antonio, you'd always have trouble. |

The Alamo used to be a very popular event at the HMGS East conventions. People signed up either because: 1) They wanted to be Texans (hey, you couldn't do worse than the original cast) 2) They wanted to be Mexicans (Hey, what's better than killing Texans? Killing all the Texans) I haven't seen this put on for several years. Pity, it was a beautiful set up. |

I played in it a number of years ago at a HMGS East Convention on the Texans side. I can't remember who hosted it though and it was 25mm/28mm figures. |

Probably CombatPainters Alamo game. I know that Tony had one at the Host 10-15 years ago. Before that George Marshall had a great set up, including the town buildings |

I haven't gamed the Siege of Bexar – yet – but would like to. I think it has a lot of possibilities. "Who will go with old Ben Milam into San Antonio?" I'd probably first try the Texas War variant for TSATF. My Alamo and Bexar are 54mm-60mm scale. Still trying to find an old Barzso Spanish church to augment Bexar. |

Years ago I read Texans in Revolt and wanted to wargame the siege… just have never gotten around to it. |

54mm scale would be interesting. |

My buddy Ron Vaughn self published two volumes of TWI scenarios for use with TSATF. He sells them at conventions, but I bet if contact him directly he can sell you a copy. They are titled: Skirmishes and Battles of the Texas Revolution, 1835-36 Vol. 1 Gonzales to The Alamo and Vol. 2 La Bahia to San Jacinto. The Siege of Bexar is scenario #4 in Vol. 1. He has dug up a lot of obscure info, including a map of Bexar for the siege. ronvaughan AT prodigy dot net |
