My collection of unpainted lead is, by most standards, fairly modest. But I only count lead I *intend* to paint. I have another pile that accumulates like it will: extras from a pack of 20 where I only wanted 10; free samples; figures that I rejected in the flesh but looked good online; unpainted protions of painted collections I've bought; etc.

So it's time for a thorough spring cleaning. Pulling out all the boxes from all the cubby holes, and sorting through them one by one. By the end of the week they should be neatly sorted and labeled, and condensed.

Some stuff I'll give away here or to Get the Lead Out (they run paint-n-takes at local shows for no charge); some I'll sell here on TMP; some I'll save for the next flea market; some I'll throw away.

Once the sort is done the goal will be to take the unpainted lead box by box and finish the whole damn pile. I think I can get at least half the boxes done by the end of the year (some projects have very little in the pile). The big one is really Indian Wars / Old West in 15mm. Just the unpainted buffalo are intimidating….

Just started and I already feel great about it. Here is the start:

Good for you. I have done the same and it is a great feeling.

I have also begun the same process. I blame it on my age.
It all started about two years ago when I had the opportunity to sell off my 1/72 plastic ACW collection and replace it with 22mm metal. Since then, I've send dead end projects to people who would actually use them. In most cases the proceeds have been turned into guilt free hobby money.

Been thinking about it real hard. I did recently sell off some stuff that I knew I wasn't going to get my use out of. I need to do the same with the rest of my stuff, so I can concentrate on a few games.

I have been doing much the same.

weird…must be a phase of the moon as I am looking at some of the same…

sneakgun04 May 2016 10:32 a.m. PST

I did the same and some of my friends thought I was planning on doing myself in….I reassured them! However we have a 4 bdrm, 2 car garage…..all but two bedrooms are filled with the wife's stuff…..

I took 74 lots to the Bring n Buy at the recent Legionary show and sole 73; many thanks to the team manning the B&B. A lot of the stuff had been languishing in my loft for 15-20 years and now that it has gone I feel that a weight has been lifted off my mind. Even better is that it went to fellow gamers. I took a big loss on everything I sold and it has taught me that I really, really must fight the dreaded 'impulse buys'.

Step one almost complete: sort and collect in piles (or neatly labeled boxes). There's actually not as much as I thought. And a lot of what I do have is terrain which is (a) bulky but also (b) quick to paint – at least as well as I paint. Anyway, yes, still feels like a weight off my mind in a weird way. Most of the boxes are only 1/3 – 2/3 full anyway. Still, I feel good that my buying has been fairly modest over the past 5 years….

I was reorganizing this week as well but I was not planning on selling any. I have more full boxes than you which probably isn't a good sign.

NEVER!!!

Every time the urge comes over me I lie down for a while until it passes. But I know the moment will come as we plan to have the basement re-done which will entail a move of the work bench/painting table/lead storage pile.

well done…I have been thinking about this for quite some time…I am 56 and have been in the hobby for 40 years…image how much crap I have accumulated!!!!! I will come up with a good sorting matrix and perhaps see through boxes or detailed labeling…I have an entire WALL of shame to go through.
