Saw this link on Facebook today-- it's a page filled with a lot of excellent WW II paintings from Russia. Check it out…

Striking works, mostly, though the Party's authority over all matters artistic is blatantly apparent in most.

Some with universal meaning are actually quite good, some are the most artless propaganda. The one showing Brezhnev holding his "fellow" soldiers rapt attention clearly dates from the 70's and serves only his position at the time.

I confess to being shocked at the comments that follow, though people who still believe in the Ultimate Goodness of the Soviets are even more annoying than closet Nazi lovers.
At least they KNOW to hide in the closet.

I hope many of those who look at this display--and lots of people should--will see that technical expertise employed to serve The State is NOT "art," but can be no less impressive. Just don't let it be "persuasive."

Be careful: some of the details on some of the German tanks don't look quite right!

Seriously, my brother-in-law visited Russia years ago on a church mission trip. He visited a well-known museum near Moscow which features huge panoramic paintings of WWII battles on the Eastern Front. He brought home a great brochure from the museum, and I think I recognize portions of some of those same paintings.
