I had a few of these elevated huts but needed to finish up another batch so I could have a proper village worth. Here are the first four. Some were sprayed brown some gray so they turned out quite different even with identical dry brush layers. There are two more not shown that need finishing. One needs some dry brushing and one needs a base – I somehow lost one. Fortunately even I can hack up some dowel and glue it to a piece of styrene…. I like the colors overall for a "new" village (they fade to a pale gray in the sun/rain over time). They are certainly serviceable as is but I'll be detailing them eventually. My main concern now are the doors and windows. On these models they are filled. I am NOT going to try and cut them out. So I'm debating how best to paint those openings. I tried black but it was far too stark so I went with dark gray. But I need suggestions on how to handle the doors and windows. These are by JR Miniatures and a re pretty oversized. But the roofs come off so if you want room for a 15mm figures, with perhaps 2 mm of base/plinth to fit inside…

Have you tried hemp trimming? I used it on some of the openings of my Sarissa huts: link |

Mark, What about pieces of burlap over the windows and doors? It would blend in with the colors of the buildings and be like screened coverings. |

Those look good. Man, I wish more people in my area were interested in 15mm Vietnam. |

Grey is not really working. Have you tried black? If it is too harsh you could dry brush or wash with another colour. In the harsh sunlight interiors look very dark even if glazed – and these would not be of course. I would be tempted to cut them out but if the material is fragile that could be a disaster. |
