I just finished watching a mini-series called Generation War. It is available on Netflix.

The miniseries is a German show, and therefore is in German with English subtitles. It follows a group of 5 friends from the time that the Germans invaded Russia till the end of the war. All of the story is about the Russian front of the war.

There are 2 brothers that are in the army, one has already fought in the invasion of Poland and France. His brother is now joining the fight. There are two women, one becomes a nurse, and the other an entertainer. The fifth friend is a Jew and the boyfriend of one of the girls.

The show has some small combat scenes during the war. They are pretty well done and feel authentic.

The show details some of the autrocities of the war done by both sides. The two brothers witness the murder of civilians and are forced to help.

I have read some complaints that the show doesn't show life in the concentration camps, which is true, but they are always there in the background. You see Jews being sent to the camps. The Jewish friend manages to escape and fight for the resistance.

I think it does a good job of showing the hopelessness that settles in as the Germans start to lose the war.

It isn't a perfect show, but I think it is well worth watching if you don't mind subtitles (or speak German).

I haven't seen it yet but intend to. It's not on Netflix in Canada, yet.

Minor beef – Russians fire a panzerfaust or RPG in one scene.

But yes, it looks pretty good.

The Soviets had plenty of captured panzerfausts by the end of the war and used them.
