"Islamic State attacks have increased this year, particularly in Iraq and Syria as the group responds to substantial territorial losses, a U.S.-based analysis firm IHS said on Sunday.

There were 891 attacks during the first quarter of 2016 in neighbors Iraq and Syria, more than in any three-month period since the militants' sweeping advance in mid-2014, IHS said in a new report.

Those attacks killed 2,150 people, a 44 percent rise over the previous three months and the highest quarterly toll in nearly a year.

I fear that we have yet to see the full brunt of this war …. and when we do it will be when the assault on the Iraqi city Mosul occurs, followed by an assault on the Syrian city of Raqqa…

Given how fractured the Iraqi government is, according to reports over the weekend, there may be no attack on Modul, unless they can get their act together.

Yes, the Shia Cleric Muktata Al-Sadr, who fought an open insurgency against the US/Coalition in GWII. Is leading the "movement" against the weak, corrupt, incompetent, Shia dominated Iraqi government, it seems. Al-Sadr just made a visit to Iran to "discuss" among fellow Shia of the Theocracy in charge in Tehran, about the current Iraq Shia's leadership.
I'd think Iran would like nothing better than a Shia dominated theocracy in Iraq. And I'm sure Al-Sadr would agree. As he'd be the big Theocrat in Charge in the country that would be formerly known as Iraq ?

On the other hand, Daesh continues to do damage in Iraq. And the Iraqis show limited capabilities to do anything really effective about it. And don't forget the other "factions" involved … The Kurds, and Sunni. Appears to be an accident about to happen.

I say the new Shia country should be called Mesopotamia or Little Iran …

Yes – Iraq is merely a Persian satrapy now.
