I just finished reading "Tooth and Nail," a novel about a platoon of US light infantry deployed to Manhattan during a rage pandemic. It reads like an "Ambush Z" after-action report. I quite enjoyed it. I'm now in the middle of "The Infection." In this novel a group of civilian survivors have fallen in with the remnants of a US Army squad and are travelling through Pittsburgh in a Bradley IFV. Lo and behold, the youngest survivor was an avid Warhammer 40K player before the outbreak. His last game with his friends at the hobby store was Space Marines vs Tyranids. I've noticed that all of DiLouie's novels, with the exception of WW2 naval yarns, are military science fiction involving a rage virus plague, though the plague in "Tooth and Nail" is different, and more plausible, than the one striking in "The Infection." But in both cases, the books have a nice sense of tension in a number of scenes. |
