I was passing a local model shop and came across some Strombecker 1/32 scale figures made of zinc. They are a small diorama of German Officers outside Liege in 1914.

I had never really intended to collect a 54mm army, but it's looking increasing unlikely that I'm going to be able to avoid it.

Stombecker made several similar sets in 1/32 scale: AWI artillery gun and crew, Union infantry at Gettysburg, and U.S. Marines on Iwo Jima, as I recall. They appear on eBay from time to time, quite reasonably priced.

If you decide to collect 54 MM then be sure to check out the Del Prado figures. They cannot be beat for a pre-painted figure. And they are usually very nicely done. And if you like painting, I have touched up a few ad/or changed the regiment, etc. They have a few very nice WWI figures, all taken from he plates in the various Osprey books.
