"Unless you are nostalgic for the last two world wars, let's hope it's nothing more than posturing. Hawaii belongs to Japan, the Japanese press suddenly proclaims. Tokyo publishes ancient maps and documents that purport to show that the Hawaiian islands were historically part of the Japanese homeland until they were illegally annexed by the Americans. To hammer the point home, a Japanese warship sails into Hawaiian waters. Does this sound totally insane? It's no more crazy than Chinese claims that the Ryukyu Islands—which include the island of Okinawa—belong to China rather than Japan…"

Although the claims are not from the government of China… |

We did this a while back, didn't we, though with China's recent moves and claims, nothing surprises me. I recall mentioning its only a matter of time until they claim North America to, since they "discovered" it, or so I've seen mentioned by some educators/professors/teachers. |

I recall mentioning its only a matter of time until they claim North America to, since they "discovered" it… I'm quite sure the Native Americans would disagree. |

Since Native American DNA is identical to Asian DNA, seems like the correct move would be for the Chinese to 'identify' that the peoples that crossed the land bridge came from territory that is part of current China, which makes all Native Americans ethnically Chinese. So the Chinese then massively invest in the reservations, and then help press claims for the return of all territory originally occupied by the Native Chinese Americans. |

Study of American First Nations' DNA haplogroups actually indicates that the first peoples who would populate America were of Siberian and Western European origin. Asian Siberians coming in from the West (by boat and land-bridge) and Solutrean (?) Europeans coming in from the East (by boat and ice-bridge). There is also evidence of very old African human remains in Eastern South America; at last report the oldest human remains found in Brazil. So, it is unlikely that China could make a viable claim on N. America. Their claim to the Ryukyu Islands however is stronger and should not be dismissed out of hand. I think that impartial observers would see Japan's claim as slightly stronger due to events in the 17th and 19th centuries, but the best claim is probably for the independence of the islanders themselves. The word Ryukyu is of Chinese origin apparently and yet the Chinese refuse to use the term! Politics makes us do odd things! Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |

Next thing you know, some dude from the Nile river valley is going to visit the UN and claim the whole planet. They'll probably agree with him. |
