Well this is my Dougram/Robotech Defender lot. In it I have the Revell Armored Combat Team (Roundfacer mecha, APC, Jeep and truck) Revell kit, The Ice Rover (hovercraft) Revell kit, The Robot Recovery Unit Revell kit and the new Max Factory Soltic Roundfacer H8 mecha. I also have both versions of the Bromry tank from the Revell Assault Squad kit by Revell. All are 1/72 scale.

The Revell kits are all from around 1985ish and are very brittle. Let me start by saying that I have wanted to do these kits for decades and loved to look at pictures of them as a kid. I sat and looked at the insert that came with the Robotech Defenders kits for hours. I had the Robot Recovery Unit as a kid and had a lot of fun with it. I paid out a ton of money for the kits but it was worth it.
The Revell kits are easy to build. However, their age makes them extremely brittle. The Armored Combat Team Roundfacer was the hardest to build and I had to pin his arm after I brook him even with a careful loving touch. The vehicles are very easy. The small parts are very fragile though. I recommend nonprofessional hobbyists saty away and abandon these kits for master model makers like myself. Pay someone to build it for you…

I might have to say that the Max Factory Soltic Roundfacer H8 might be the best designed kit I have ever built if not for its crappy armpit joints. I fixed this by reversing the rubber joint and cutting it to fit the arm. This tightens it and makes the kit work the way it should. What made this kit so good is the incredible parts fit and awesome design work (not on the arms though). I used very little glue. I did however have to sand and putty the front of the shin as with all Robotech kits above 1/200. I like this kit and look forward to other Max Factory resin kits. The opening cockpit is the coolest part to me. This was a big improvement over vinyl kits from the 1980's that I spent hours chopping on to get them to fit just right.

If you don't know what Dougram is go check it out and view Fang of the Sun ASAP. It was the second real robot craze franchise to pop up and it is very cool. Lots of politics and tactics combined with robot death make for a cool show. Revell later got the kits for its Robotech Defender line in the USA in the 1980's.

Very cool! I have no idea what any of it is or that Revell ever made such things but giant stompy robots are always cool.

The kits were always brittle.

Haywire,
I had the experience of building 5 of the kits in the 80's and another 2 in the late 90's including an original cast of the big Robotech Factory. The plastic in the kits is for sure much more brittle than it was a long time ago.

Very nice work!

I have the vehicle kits in my collection, purchased way back in the early '80s. Your excellent photos have inspired me; I might have to break them out this summer.

Along with VOTOMS my favourite mecha show.

Excellent work! I wanted these when I was a kid.

I HAD some of those in my late teens and early 20s.

I had a [going to use the Battletech unseen names as I don't recall their other names] Goliath, Scorpion, Thunderbolt, Battle master, Shadowhawk – these were diecast aluminium and plastic, not model kits though.

No idea what happened to them. Lost in the mists of time.
