Ah, yes, work, the curse of the painting class! I spent the last two weeks on the road for work, and only completed painting three figures! On the bright side, I was too busy to go out and buy anything to add to the lead mountain. Grelber |

Another month which ran out of time. Again I staved off the purchasing of new figures despite a 20% off sale at a local store. I do have a dozen figures on the table that oh so close to being done so should have them done by next weekend. I finished five figures so am offically in the black for the year. Now if I can stay there. This month Bought 0 Painted 5 Brigade Swashbucklers YTD Bought 68 Painted 73 Net – +5 |

Gave in and bought a magnifier with daylight ring light, saw how bad my painting was and stopped in a fit of depression! Spent the past few weeks painting 28mm armour for a variety of periods and projects then caught a cold so the figure painting to complete the crews is on hold for a few more days. Oh, and went to see Civil War with Monkey Hanger – really enjoyed it, especially the extra at the very end of the credits. |

I seem to have been missing updates. February had notes, but I can't find them. I'll add them back in when I do. March-April 2016 total: Bought 11 (One old GW Wood Elf Wardancer, some Infinity and a little Warmachine/Hordes) Sold 90 (flea market in April: Some WFB and 40k, and a pile of 10mm WWII) Painted 2 (Reaper Bones Water Weird and Hordes Night Troll) Year-to-date totals: Growth -75 Painted +5 Even without February's convention flea table numbers I'm doing well, though for the wrong reasons. |

April was a busy month (non-painting) for me AND I decided to completely change my painting method to learn a new way, so this month was all about learning to paint the Foundry/Dallimore way. Slowed me down now so that I can speed up later. I started April with 332 figures in the pile. I painted 24 figures: 2 25mm D&D Monsters 10 25mm D&D PCs/NPCs 7 25mm wargames figures Humans 4 Battlemechs 2 Fantasy terrain "tiles" And "no purchases"! Three months in a row and counting… I ended the month with 307 figures in the pile. For the year, I have a net of: +108 figures. |

@Vigilant

Don't despair the magnifier is just a tool (and the most critical one I use) The important thing is that the figure gives an impression at a distance the magnifier just allows you to navigate the detail better Try just changing one thing in your painting and see whether it improves the overall look and that it is not too much effort Everything you have painted in the past is still good and however much you improve, there will be someone better. Perusal of gallery boards is usually a humbling experience for me This is my rule I slowly improve over time and never go back to repaint something. If I did, my completion rate would go even more negative than it is at the moment :) John |

Well, that didn't go as planned, and it was GLORIOUS. The Pile (4/1) 910 Painted: 14 Bought: 61 (yikes! Cheap stuff at Cons and on eBay make me break 25 sci-fi figures, 10 Dunwich Detectives, 5 Reaper Bones, and my 21 RAFM Call of Cthulhu Kickstarter minis finally arrived! May is looking better, thank God.) +47 onto the pile (412 for the year) The Pile (5/1) 957 |

@Vigilant – I totally concur with what @jwebster had to say. When I need to improve, I go back to basics. I let myself slow way down so that I learn something new. I recommend that to you. I know that my figures from 8 years ago are crap compared to today, but they still bring color and play to the table and that is what is important. One of the best techniques I have for painting is to remember and keep reminding myself that this is for tabletop, not for art shows. If I want an art show figure, I will approach it that way. But… I have too many desires to play, so tabletop level it is. And that makes me happy. I hope you will find your happiness again in painting. |

I was a bad boy this month: FIGURES PURCHASED: 6 (Yes, two more 3-stage packs) FIGURES PAINTED: ZERO! (Oh, the shame!) TOTAL PURCHASED FOR YEAR: 24 TOTAL PAINTED FOR YEAR: 11 BALANCE: -13 …and the downward spiral continues! |
