Just to avoid confusion, 'Jim's place' is what the Zulus called the outpost station at Rorke's drift. In IsiZulu it is 'Kwa Jim' Yeah, I recently read the Osprey book! |

Do you know, untill you posted that it hadn't occured to me that there would be folk looking at the 19th century/Colonial boards on TMP not knowing that Rorkes drift was known as Jims place, or Jims House to the Zulus…. whoops! |

I imagined most folk on the colonial board would know, but I thought those browsing the front page might ignore the post from not knowing! I do colonial game, and hadn't realised the Zulu name myself until recently! Doh! |

I cant recall a book on the subject that didnt mention it! I quite like the name, and I didnt want to just call it Rorkes Drift, everyone plays Rorkes Drift, all the posts and AAR's are called Rorkes Drift, it would have just been another Rorkes drift amongst many. And I think it helps to remember that every battle has two tales told about it afterwards…. |

I salute you logic about over familiarity with 'Rorke's Drift' – I, too, sometimes struggle to present info in an interesting and novel way – so as not to have the post dismissed with an 'Oh, no- not again' !!! |

Well, I find titles for an AAR like "1500pnt LW FOW German Heer V Brit Armoured" Dull and uninspiring, so one of the things I do when looking for a title for an AAR is pick up a relevant book, which might be the one that inspired the scenario played or covers the appropriate period, and find a quote to mangle. The one I went with was a slight paraphrasing of something I found in one of Ian Knights books where the zulus who went to Rorkes Drift are being scolded by their wives! It was up against one of Wolsleys where he derides the awarding of medals for the defenders of the station but I couldn't find a way to reword it to turn it back on him…"A monstrous making of Heroes" or something like that perhaps… |
