I painted up some Hoplites for my daughter's teachers. She goes to an excellent school and as a result I am sure she will never make a punctuation mistake.

Hoplites. Read about them here along with some thoughts on the shield transfers.

Very nice. A hoplite is an unusual mascot for a school too!

Of course, "Spartans" is not unusual.

BTW,it was called a liberal education because it was of the kind thought appropriate for the "liber" (free man).

On the shield transfers – I got a similar comment on some 10mm where I had one unit with painted shields and the others decals – he preferred the painted ones.

I wonder if the Greeks saw their shields as the main focus and wouldn't be unhappy if that was what was noticed. Seeing a locked row of shields with strange faces would be pretty intimidating.

I wonder if some of the patterns aren't too "busy". The blue/yellow squares I think are too much, I prefer the simpler ones (the two on the right in the top row of your posted picture). I did make very complex patterns for some Arab foot knights, with the justification that they were rich and specialized in ornate patterns
