Is there a book you would recommend that gives the history of British regiments, including odd facts such as whether they had mascots (one had a goat, and another a bear) and the rivalries/hatred/respect with other regiments, their eccentric officers, and when, for example, they had to combine under the reforms pushed in the 1880s? I know this sounds odd, but I find the traditions of the British military fascinating. I am reading a book on the army in Egypt in 1882, and a few pages are dedicated to this type material, leaves me craving more. thanks.

I ordered 10 packs of 15's and received them within 4 weeks. Apparently people had issues earlier in the year, but seems good now.

Your best bet is looking at the websites of some of the booksellers like Heywood & Hill in Mayfair London who specialise in Victorian memoirs. Their books can be pricey but are often fascinating, Caliver Books can also be good at that kind of thing particularly if you contact them direct. Otherwise look at the internet for the details of British regimental Museums (there are still quite a few around) and they often reprint histories and personal memoirs which would probably fit the bill.

Best of luck

You should have a look at Byron Farwell's _Mr Kipling's Army: All the Queen's Men_. It has a bunch of stuff exactly like you're looking for.
