I have dabbled in most periods. But there are some periods I have never bothered to attempt.
I suppose most prominent would be
English Civil War
30 Years War

Having said that, if you paint them and run the game, I will play. grin

Garand28 Apr 2016 9:55 a.m. PST

US Civil War
US Revolutionary War
Napoleonics.

I'm sure there are others, but those top the list.

Damon.

Naval anything.
Arial anything.
Anything after WW2.

JimSelzer28 Apr 2016 10:21 a.m. PST

anything post waterloo

Pictors Studio28 Apr 2016 10:23 a.m. PST

There is nothing that I am not interested in gaming, just things that I don't have time for or don't have enough interest to actually put armies together to do.

Were I able to magic armies out of nothing, probably I'd have some stuff for everything.

Personal logo enfant perdus Supporting Member of TMP28 Apr 2016 10:26 a.m. PST

Anything post-WWII. The Korean and Vietnam wars pique my interest slightly, as do a few "retreat from empire" dustups, but NATO v. Warsaw Pact, Arab-Israeli, Indo-Pak, etc. have zero appeal.

Dave Jackson Supporting Member of TMP28 Apr 2016 10:29 a.m. PST

Post WWII, Samurai (and its ilk)

Personal logo Saber6 Supporting Member of TMP Fezian28 Apr 2016 10:32 a.m. PST

Vietnam
Ancients (mostly due to rules and not wanting to paint these)
30YW and ECW (partly to size of engagements, partly to issues around the sides)

Sharpe5228 Apr 2016 10:36 a.m. PST

I play everything; however I don't love ultramodern so much.
Marco

Tommy2028 Apr 2016 10:41 a.m. PST

No interest in anything before gunpowder or after WWII.

Timmo uk28 Apr 2016 11:02 a.m. PST

If I'm honest 'most' but I enjoy seeing what others do with any period. For example, I'll never do the SYW but I enjoy seeing how others have gathered and painted their collections.

Since I have to be really interested in something to want to paint it, the periods I'll go through the grief of modelling are few and far between. I suspect they are probably those that I predict will score highly in this thread.

imrael28 Apr 2016 11:04 a.m. PST

Anything after regular use of machine guns

RABeery28 Apr 2016 11:18 a.m. PST

1600 – 1800 AD, colonial, and post WWII.

Brandlin28 Apr 2016 11:43 a.m. PST

Everything.

I only do fantasy/scifi.

Goober28 Apr 2016 11:48 a.m. PST

Anything after about 650 or before 1939.

The Beast Rampant28 Apr 2016 11:52 a.m. PST

Anything post-WWII
Nothing Far East

With the above, my arm could be twisted by an enthusiastic group that was "all in", but I still have absolutely no interest in anything after maybe 1960.

WarWizard28 Apr 2016 12:10 p.m. PST

Napoleonic
Naval
Air
Sci-fi (except AQMF)
Steampunk
ECW
WH40K
WH

Rich Bliss28 Apr 2016 12:16 p.m. PST

WWI in Europe
Medieval
Cold War

Hafen von Schlockenberg28 Apr 2016 12:21 p.m. PST

I'm surprised at how many share my 1945 cut-off date.

Tom D128 Apr 2016 12:46 p.m. PST

The late Brig. Peter Young observed that modern weaponry had turned warfare into "a vulgar brawl". So, no post 1900 for me. For similar reasons, no pre-Alexander. Otherwise, anything in between.

Dicymick28 Apr 2016 12:51 p.m. PST

Neolithic.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP28 Apr 2016 1:14 p.m. PST

Moderns.

Too much like the news, and so lacks that all important escapism factor.

I stop around 1941. With just a little AK-47.

I would game moderns if someone else was running it and asked me – but it would never be my number 1 choice.

steamingdave4728 Apr 2016 1:26 p.m. PST

Never played WW1 land wargames, although enjoy Wings of Glory with npbiplanes. No great interest in ultramodern, although I have played the odd game of Skirmish Sangin.
I mainly play 17th to mid 19th century, but not averse to Ancients and Medievals.

RavenscraftCybernetics28 Apr 2016 1:53 p.m. PST

Colonials

Norman D Landings28 Apr 2016 2:24 p.m. PST

Nowt whatsoever.
Cavemen to spacemen… Its all toy soldiers, innit?
You put it on a table, I'll roll a dice.

I'm aware there are people who are interested in pushing toy soldiers around the table as long as they represent Army A, but disinterested if they represent Army B.
I think they're silly bunnies.

Grignotage28 Apr 2016 2:46 p.m. PST

Generally less interested in pregunpowder warfare, but i think my only zero interest period is post WWII naval warfare.

snodipous28 Apr 2016 3:27 p.m. PST

Any game where the soldiers wear fancy colorful uniforms and tall hats and march around in blocks with their muskets on their shoulders.

gamershs28 Apr 2016 4:02 p.m. PST

Not that interested in WW1 ground. Any battle where they calculate they will lose about 100 men per machine gun that has survived bombardment sort of gets to me.

Yesthatphil28 Apr 2016 4:09 p.m. PST

I'm unlikely ever to go more recent than Vietnam (that's still too modern for me but I'm sure it will open up one day) …

Otherwise anything historical is of interest.

Phil

The reason I have always loved minis, but never cared a hoot for pushing chits around, is the visual stimulation and immersion of the theme. And modern warfare bores me, and is "too close to home"- so what would I possibly get out of gaming it?

This whole thread is all about "to each his own".

3AcresAndATau28 Apr 2016 4:20 p.m. PST

I'd have to pass on War on Terror real world period wise, as well as WWI. The former is definitely too close to home, the latter just doesn't strike me as very interesting for wargaming purposes, though it would be interesting to find out where great gramps got his Iron Cross. 19th century Colonial is borderline, the dubious morality is a tough sell.

Otherwise, I'm down for just about anything that involves the history of Western civilization, for some reason most history that doesn't involve Europe or America, while still interesting, doesn't catch my imagination in quite the same fashion. Some medieval Japanese gaming could be cool.

Mute Bystander28 Apr 2016 5:05 p.m. PST

Not Play?

ECW bores me at the thought of a game. Ditto most anything decided by "push of the pike" or MEDANC. Pretty much anything before gunpowder becomes practical is not interesting. Strangely enough I like Fantasy.

Not Build an army?

WW2 Axis and Soviets. Bastards all.

Age of Sail naval. Never got the technique for sailing on the table top. Too much "hammering" another ship.

Land warfare after the Cold War. That sounds too much like my work.

Jamesonsafari28 Apr 2016 5:14 p.m. PST

Will play anything once at least.
No interest in building:
Cavemen
Biblical
ECW/30 yrs war
AWI
FIW
ACW
Air or naval WW1 or WW2
Cold war
Vietnam

Anything else in there I've at least entertained the idea and perused catalogues for it.

Berzerker7328 Apr 2016 5:44 p.m. PST

no interest building army:
- vietnam
- ACW
- WWI
- Post WWII
- ECW

I have no interest in the Dark Ages (yes, that means Vikings) and the Renaissance.

DisasterWargamer Supporting Member of TMP29 Apr 2016 4:44 a.m. PST

Limited before tyw and limited after 1900

Martin Rapier29 Apr 2016 6:49 a.m. PST

Dark Ages through the Renaissance.

I will play with other people's stuff.

Pike and shot used to be no go, but since I figured out that in 2mm no-one can see the uniforms anyway, I'm good to go.

Weasel29 Apr 2016 7:14 a.m. PST

No interest in colonial gaming.

Pre-gunpowder periods tend to require more persuasion but it has happened.

Pike and shot, I've never had an interest in, but the 1hourwargames book made me curious.

Personal logo javelin98 Supporting Member of TMP29 Apr 2016 8:26 a.m. PST

Napoleonics, not because I find them uninteresting, but because it seems to cause rage disorders in so many of its players!

Old Contemptibles29 Apr 2016 10:38 a.m. PST

Carlist Wars
Biblical
Cold War
Anything after WWII.
Polynesian tribal warfare
Wild West Cowboy Stuff (But would do Plains Indian Wars)
Other than those, I will try anything historical.

bruntonboy29 Apr 2016 10:57 a.m. PST

Once upon a time I would have listed a dozen conflicts off the top of my head where I had zero interest. I now game more than half of them. So I am never going to say never for anything.

I'll make an exception for anything involving Zombies though.

darthfozzywig30 Apr 2016 2:08 a.m. PST

This…

if you paint them and run the game, I will play.

Plus this…

Were I able to magic armies out of nothing, probably I'd have some stuff for everything.

= me. But I'd also need to be able to magic a place to store them all as well. :)

Bellbottom30 Apr 2016 3:54 a.m. PST

Anything involving Dungeoning with Drag on

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP30 Apr 2016 11:16 a.m. PST

Anything before 7YW or after Vietnam has no interest for me.

Silurian30 Apr 2016 1:28 p.m. PST

Well I'm 'going' to do absolutely everything. :)

But at the bottom of the list (for now):

Floaty things (oh wait, except for pirates, I like them…)
Post WWII (although I feel the pull of '46, but that probably doesn't count)
SYW (no idea why, just doesn't nudge the excito-meter)
