I have dabbled in most periods. But there are some periods I have never bothered to attempt. I suppose most prominent would be English Civil War 30 Years War Having said that, if you paint them and run the game, I will play. |

US Civil War US Revolutionary War Napoleonics. I'm sure there are others, but those top the list. Damon. |

There is nothing that I am not interested in gaming, just things that I don't have time for or don't have enough interest to actually put armies together to do. Were I able to magic armies out of nothing, probably I'd have some stuff for everything. |
enfant perdus | 28 Apr 2016 10:26 a.m. PST |
Anything post-WWII. The Korean and Vietnam wars pique my interest slightly, as do a few "retreat from empire" dustups, but NATO v. Warsaw Pact, Arab-Israeli, Indo-Pak, etc. have zero appeal. |

If I'm honest 'most' but I enjoy seeing what others do with any period. For example, I'll never do the SYW but I enjoy seeing how others have gathered and painted their collections. Since I have to be really interested in something to want to paint it, the periods I'll go through the grief of modelling are few and far between. I suspect they are probably those that I predict will score highly in this thread. |

The late Brig. Peter Young observed that modern weaponry had turned warfare into "a vulgar brawl". So, no post 1900 for me. For similar reasons, no pre-Alexander. Otherwise, anything in between. |

Moderns. Too much like the news, and so lacks that all important escapism factor. I stop around 1941. With just a little AK-47. I would game moderns if someone else was running it and asked me – but it would never be my number 1 choice. |
steamingdave47 | 28 Apr 2016 1:26 p.m. PST |
Never played WW1 land wargames, although enjoy Wings of Glory with npbiplanes. No great interest in ultramodern, although I have played the odd game of Skirmish Sangin. I mainly play 17th to mid 19th century, but not averse to Ancients and Medievals. |

Nowt whatsoever. Cavemen to spacemen… Its all toy soldiers, innit? You put it on a table, I'll roll a dice. I'm aware there are people who are interested in pushing toy soldiers around the table as long as they represent Army A, but disinterested if they represent Army B. I think they're silly bunnies. |
Grignotage | 28 Apr 2016 2:46 p.m. PST |
Generally less interested in pregunpowder warfare, but i think my only zero interest period is post WWII naval warfare. |
snodipous | 28 Apr 2016 3:27 p.m. PST |
Any game where the soldiers wear fancy colorful uniforms and tall hats and march around in blocks with their muskets on their shoulders. |
gamershs | 28 Apr 2016 4:02 p.m. PST |
Not that interested in WW1 ground. Any battle where they calculate they will lose about 100 men per machine gun that has survived bombardment sort of gets to me. |
Yesthatphil | 28 Apr 2016 4:09 p.m. PST |
I'm unlikely ever to go more recent than Vietnam (that's still too modern for me but I'm sure it will open up one day) … Otherwise anything historical is of interest. Phil |
The Beast Rampant | 28 Apr 2016 4:09 p.m. PST |
I'm aware there are people who are interested in pushing toy soldiers around the table as long as they represent Army A, but disinterested if they represent Army B. I think they're silly bunnies. The reason I have always loved minis, but never cared a hoot for pushing chits around, is the visual stimulation and immersion of the theme. And modern warfare bores me, and is "too close to home"- so what would I possibly get out of gaming it? This whole thread is all about "to each his own". |
3AcresAndATau | 28 Apr 2016 4:20 p.m. PST |
I'd have to pass on War on Terror real world period wise, as well as WWI. The former is definitely too close to home, the latter just doesn't strike me as very interesting for wargaming purposes, though it would be interesting to find out where great gramps got his Iron Cross. 19th century Colonial is borderline, the dubious morality is a tough sell. Otherwise, I'm down for just about anything that involves the history of Western civilization, for some reason most history that doesn't involve Europe or America, while still interesting, doesn't catch my imagination in quite the same fashion. Some medieval Japanese gaming could be cool. |
Mute Bystander | 28 Apr 2016 5:05 p.m. PST |
Not Play? ECW bores me at the thought of a game. Ditto most anything decided by "push of the pike" or MEDANC. Pretty much anything before gunpowder becomes practical is not interesting. Strangely enough I like Fantasy. Not Build an army? WW2 Axis and Soviets. Bastards all. Age of Sail naval. Never got the technique for sailing on the table top. Too much "hammering" another ship. Land warfare after the Cold War. That sounds too much like my work. |
Jamesonsafari | 28 Apr 2016 5:14 p.m. PST |
Will play anything once at least. No interest in building: Cavemen Biblical ECW/30 yrs war AWI FIW ACW Air or naval WW1 or WW2 Cold war Vietnam Anything else in there I've at least entertained the idea and perused catalogues for it. |

Dark Ages through the Renaissance. I will play with other people's stuff. Pike and shot used to be no go, but since I figured out that in 2mm no-one can see the uniforms anyway, I'm good to go. |
Weasel | 29 Apr 2016 7:14 a.m. PST |
No interest in colonial gaming. Pre-gunpowder periods tend to require more persuasion but it has happened. Pike and shot, I've never had an interest in, but the 1hourwargames book made me curious. |
