I was recently clearing out the underbrush from the side of my house (as per the wife's orders), and remembered that there is a tree that grows there that I use for wargaming purposes. It is some kind of firm, that I strip it's leaves and use as ground scatter for games. At the last convention game I ran, someone remarked that I used confetti for the ground leaves. I responded "No, they are real leaves from my yard".

Does anyone else do this? Or more specifically, do you have vegetation in your yard used specifically for gaming?

I have done this for large scale figures 1/30 and 1/6. The larger you go, the better the real stuff looks in scale.

I have also uses old dried spices, like oregano, as ground cover under trees.

I do, I use small twigs from fallen branches and dried leaves crumble nicely into ground scatter.
I even use dirt and sand from outside as I'm sure everybody does.

@45thdiv. That is a great idea!
Thanks, I will have to give it a try.

Yes! I use a salad cutting device "as seen on tv" that we have and don't use. I grind up old dry leaves and use it as ground scatter. Works perfectly!

Oh, I have also used those big chunks or bark that is used for mulch. It paints up nicely as rocks. More like slate and such. Best to prime all sides to ensure no critters are living inside.

The plastic inserts from various boxes of chocolates can make excellent small scale (6mm and below) SF industrial complexes or city blocks.

There is a company selling laser cut items designed to go with Pringles cartons to make various industrial complexes.

I've used snail shells collected from my mother's beach – good for alien bodies, organic tech vehicles, and elven terrain.

Rocks, mainly road chippings, twigs and bit of bark. Managed to find some useful stuff whilst walking the dog, best ever was a magnetic sign lost from the side of a van- 2 x 1 metre of magnetic bases. :)

I use a lot of found objects for terrain. I'm in some danger of becoming a hoarder, but luckily I only keep small objects.

I second GarrisonMiniatures on plastic inserts for micro building complexes, although mine usually come from various snacks from the Asian grocery store.
