"The new deployment will bring to 300 the number of US special forces soldiers in Syria. Speaking in Hannover, Germany, Mr Obama said the troops would not lead the fight but would provide training. He has repeatedly ruled out sending in American ground forces…" Full article here link Only 300?? Amicalement Armand |

Not sure. Another news report mentioned 350 already there, bringing the total to 600, or so. Don't know which is correct, but as a number of analysts have said, this isn't really going to do much to help defeat ISIS. |

Sooo…our troops are in Syria…without the Syrian government's permission…to fight ISIS…from Kurdish territory, I guess…I hope it's part of Kurdish territory that our Turkish allies aren't bombing and shelling…lovely. |

We probably really don't know actual numbers … and shouldn't. If we the civilian populous knows then so does the enemy. And that would be another violation of OPSEC, etc. … And you are NOT supposed to tell the enemy what you have and what you are going to do, etc., … Call me crazy … |

Must be some confusion. There can't be US personnel in Syria, since we were told repeatedly by the administration there would be no US boots on the ground. Perhaps they are hovering over the ground? Perhaps the boots are not made in the US? Thus no US boots on the ground, but these nice ones we got in Italy will be? |

I intend to wargame this on the tabletop by taking a frozen waffle and flip-flopping it on the table. |

The U.S. military expansion in Syria: What it is — and isn't "The new force of 250 American troops who've been ordered to Syria will operate near Islamic State territory, helping U.S. leaders decide which local rebel groups should receive military support. Pentagon officials say these personnel will manage "transactional" relationship between Washington and the little-known militias. Rebel commanders who demonstrate progress against ISIS will be rewarded with U.S. airstrikes, weapons, ammunition and money…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Worse and worse. Like a dog returning to her vomit. What are the odds that Emir Abu Derka-derka of the Popular Liquidation Front (Democratic) will decide it's easier and more profitable to kidnap some Americans and sell them to Daesh? Cough*Benghazi*cough. |
