Any rules out there for WW2 that lend themselves to solo play?

I don't mind a good amount of detail, but I'd rather avoid an obscene amount of chart/page flipping.

I thought about using Conflict of Heroes for a miniature solo game (heard their solo rules are quit nice) but I'd rather not shell out $100 USD+ for a board game to just use the rules.

I've got a copy of Schwere Kompanie laying around and I haven't really given them a looksie…..anyone who has played them care to comment if they lend to solo play at all?

Appreciate any input

Nuts! would be a good one

NUTS! Relatively inexpensive, and gives a good, fun game. Strictly tactical (1 fig = 1 man/tank). Can also be played with multiple players on the same side against the system, or on opposing sides against each other.

AIRFIX BATTLES has a solo play option.

I have yet to find a set of WW2 rules that I cannot play solo.

I'm fighting that feeling that a d6 game is…..limited.

As much as I don't want overly complicated rules, I feel rolling 1 d6 is pretty basic. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to look at NUTS a little more.

I do like Schwere Kompanie now that I've skimmed over the rules just now.

MajorB….I guess anyone with gaming experience can adapt any rules set to handle solo play.

Thanks folks

It's not the dice, it's the rules as in what you can do with them. Take a look at Chain Reaction 1st. It's free and will give you a look at the Reaction System.

If you like total control of your figures, then you won't like it.
As for tables, there is a lot that are used for AI and rarely used at that. All you need is on 3 pages and most of the time there's only 3 tables you'll be using and easy to memorize.

Take a look at Combat Patrol:

They're not built for solo play, but like the others have said, most any WWII rules can be played solo.

Having recently learnt to play NUTS! after trying many other rules I can honeslty say that NUTS! and the other THW rules are now my go to rules system for the majority ofthe games I play.

D6 is certainly not too basic, and there is plenty of scope for tactics and fun during a game.

I only wish I had played NUTS! years ago and save a lot of money on other rules.

Chain of Command solos quite well.

Maneouver Group may do it. Its not designed to play solo but its scope is such that it would be possible to write out a good set of instructions in Quantative Lanuage and it would work, from moving into position from the road to launching an attack on a defended position working to the instructions you gave. You could specify the Artillery plan and who gets the artillery when and put in Phase lines if you wanted too, just like the real thing.

For a single player game you would want a multi evening game as it has more scope.

For instance the map below is a 6 ft by 8 ft board seperated into a number of different roads with diffrent weight limits that are, if you like connected, "sub boards". Writing orders and carrying them out could be fun.

The above was for 1/144 using MG but it is easily converted to 6mm or done as a series of boards in larger scales.

You would have a Company plus some reserves say at least a platoon of tanks on the defence and say two 8 hr days of engineering for the defence. The attaker would need to be a Battalion at least with supports. Based on the fact that after 8 hrs the attacker if not the defender will have to re-fuel and re-arm.
