I'm looking for some post-apoc rubbish bits to add to my zombie bases- things like cans, bottles, newspapers etc. Can anyone recommend a source of these?

A lot of plastic model sprues have bits that look like 'junk' – the ejector pin bits often look like coffee cups as do the bleed tabs, even the angled cross section straight bits can be cut to look like abandoned fast food containers. If you don't use plastic kits ask your gaming friends who will probably be happy to get rid of them in a useful fashion.

If that does not appeal then check out the local Model shops, sometimes they have bags of odd lengths of plastic rod and shapes in the scratch building section near the trains including square and 'I' beams. In fact Model Railroad Internet sites sometimes offer print-your-own bill boards and newspapers in various scales – you probably want 'S' or 'O' for the newspapers but 'HO/OO' would do for bill boards if you game in 25-30mm.

Otherwise, Hirst Arts/Castle Molds make a number of dungeon décor molds which may have useful bits, but you have to cast your own.

I was checking out a UK stockist who sold modern UK and US 'urban waste' including old mattresses etc, but I can't for the life of me recall their name…

Thank you all very much. Those black cat bases links were exactly what I was looking for.

One of my decorations are small pieces of square cut paper to simulate pieces of paper blown around. Fold some and glue them one inside the other gives you a news paper or magazine.

Paint the base-top black and add lane markers going across it to simulate road. Clear plastic sheeting (bubble packs etc.) can be cut up for broken glass. A few dots of clear gloss paint for the really small stuff.

As mentioned, sprue can be used for cans, pipes etc. Also small bits of wire can be used for anything.

Lastly, any left over parts from the junk bin can be glued down. Guns,a cut off foot for an old shoe, a hand bag-the sky is the limit.
