Do you and your gaming friends drink alcohol: A. Before you game – gotta get into character to face the enemy B. During the game – keeping the train rolling C. After the game – takes the edge off the debrief D. All of the above – yes, I have a problem E. None of the above – I'm stone cold sober when I kill you |

E. Coffee is my drink of choice. Alcohol makes me sleepy and I don't like being sleepy. |

E for the most part. C if at all. There are some differences between role-playing games are miniatures war-games. You can get away with a little buzz for most RPGs. Wargaming rules, however, require focus, and alcohol unfocuses the mind. For all games, however, caffeine is my drug of choice. I think that's true of the rest of my group. |

E Because family genetics I save alcohol for when wife/daughters and I walk to a local restaurant (1 long and 1 short blocks ) or a glass of red wine – doctors orders happily enough – at supper. I never had a hangover – once drank at a party in 1970s drank until passed out to see if I could induce one and once drank way too much alcohol as a participant in one of those psychology department experiments (at least 4, who can remember the exact number, based on your weight – double gin and tonics in twenty minutes halfway through experiment {how does my friend Lynn drink that s… stuff regularly?} to see if your self perception could be manipulated. It was a late 1970s/early 1980s psychology thing. Not having a hangover after that much alcohol is not deemed a "good thing" by medical personnel I discovered. Been circumspect since then. |

How is four or five beers over the course of eight to ten hours a problem? Denial is usually the first sign. ;) Kidding. Feel free to lighten up, or take a TMP poll with all the seriousness it deserves. |

E no alcohol for me at all, however I used to play with a group that did drink, I waited until they were in their cups and then attack. Alcohol won a number of games for me. |

These responses have been really interesting to me. We talk about "beer & pretzels" gaming, but while that was a more literal experience in years past, that doesn't seem to be the case here. |

Denial is usually the first sign. Based on my ancestry, I have a genetic predisposition toward alcoholism. Based on my father-in-law (28 years in recovery), SWMBO does as well. The thing I am in denial about is that I can afford four or five beers worth of calories and game day food on a mostly sedentary day. |

I drink during the game. Some of the others have one or two. However I live there, and don't have to worry about driving anywhere. If I have to drive, I don't. |
