I've reviewed the old MB/GW game Heroquest on my blog from the perspective of a game for under 10s link A question though: which other dungeoncrawl games are pitched at a similar level of complexity (i.e. not very)? |

Advanced Heroquest is my overall favorite dungeoncrawl game. Pretty simple but covers all the bases with adventuring mode then combat mode phases, traps, random monsters, character & henchman development. Maybe a little limited in the types of monsters compared to say D&D but worth a look if you've not played it. There are also a few fan websites with loads of extra rules & variants |

Dungeon Saga. A bit pricy but it plays okay. Warhammer Quest was good and Decent is good too. |

I have played heroquest, adv heroquest and wh quest. basic heroquest is certainly the simplest, but wh quest is probably the best of the 3. We did play that with my daughter when she was about 8 or so, but we had started with the other games. If you have the bits from all 3, you could probably combine wh quest and heroquest. Eg, use the card draw from the dungeon/ monsters, but use the combat dice etc from heroquest. Wh quest has the advantage of being totally co-op, which I feel woks best with the kids. We recently had a go at playing mice and mystics with my nephew, and I think that would work with younger kids. |

Dungeon! was good. Quite old now, maybe you can get it second hand. I'd say its simpler than Heroquest so good for young'uns. |

I second djb's suggestion. I started my son on that before going to Heroquest, Space Crusade then epic 40k. None of which he is interested in now. I still have Heroquest packed away smoewhere with two or three of the extra scenarios. The Ogre and Witch King boxes? |

Oh!!! Great memories! If you've got your kids playing "Hero Quest" then the next step is Milton Bradley's "Battle Masters". "Battle Masters" is to "War Hammer" what "Hero Quest" is to "D&D". A great way to trick… I mean introduce your kids to miniature wargaming. Check out boardgamegeeks.com |
