Gents,

Does anyone know how to make these towel terrain boards or has seen a tutorial online showing their construction – materials, etc.

An info appreciate to achieve this 'look' would be appreciated.

Roundwood's articles are very useful. He paints the towelling and binds it down which i think is unlike the Perry's, who just have it mounted on boards and detailed up a bit.

…still looking for the ultimate towelling tutorial I think …fingers crossed.

Check out this thread:

He doesn't use toweling but felt and t-shirt material.

Results are spectacular IMHO.

Games Worskhop's 2003 "How to Make Wargames Terrain" is a great resource. It has a section talking about using toweling as a surface.

Here's an online PDF file of the entire book. Should be viewable, looks like it's just posted for free.

Basically it's really just choosing how tall or short the carpeting is (the pile I mean), and then dying it in whatever shades of green/brown/yellow. You could also trim the pile down in various places to give the ground an irregular look. As was said above, it's a pretty easy technique and the results are spectacular. Toweling can just be glued to a baseboard, or used loose to drape over a table.

Here's the PDF link. Scroll down to page 16:
