link A war between China and the US over Taiwan was more believable than China impacting an asteroid on the eastern American seaboard and killing off the human race. Baxter's technical writer is awesome. His storyline is too over the top. Blake |

Not read that one, but generally I like Baxter. He is certainly quite happy to destroy the planet, the species, or even the universe, though. |

Read it a some time ago, I remember enjoying it. |

Not exactly laugh-a-minute stuff. He must have been in a particularly misanthropic mood. I enjoyed "Time Ships" more. He's got a new collaboration coming out next month. I mostly read,or reread, older SF. The contemporary guy I've liked most is Peter F. Hamilton. Fallen Dragon is a good singleton, and Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained is a 2-part work that, among other things, introduces that implacable ice-queen police woman,Paula Myo. Grrrowl! |

Another endorsement for Hamilton's Commonwealth saga. Amazingly good space opera. |

It was pretty good. It was the first "hard" sci fi i read. |
