Next up will be an Army List for FOB, a 15mm figure review and the battle of Mudki with an AAR.

Very nice! Would like to see them in action.

Oh Bugger21 Apr 2016 3:48 p.m. PST

The game is scheduled for a week Saturday it will be interesting to see how it turns out. The actual battle was very bloody.

Gone Fishing21 Apr 2016 6:29 p.m. PST

They look splendid, OB! I always love looking at your assembled troops.

Looks good – I'll follow this with interest – I need to get my own stalled Sikh Wars project going…

Mike

Thanks G Dog I'll do that.

RogerC22 Apr 2016 11:02 a.m. PST

I am part way through building a 28mm force for Sikh Wars, what rules are you using?

Oh Bugger22 Apr 2016 12:53 p.m. PST

Piquet Field of Battle for me.

Nice. The Old Glory Sikh Wars line, sculpted by Chris Hughes of Sash and Saber,is high on my Must Buy list.

After you've done all the historical battles, here's a "what if" scenario to consider: Ranjit Singh repents his dissolute lifestyle, cleans himself up, and lives another 10-15 years, long enough to complete his reforms of the army and government. Though he wisely (as in reality) avoids provoking the British, they find,as with the Zulus in South Africa, the presence of a powerful state just across the border an intolerable situation. Thus, the Sutlej is crossed, not by the Sikhs, but by an Anglo-Egyptian army, marching to face a unified Sikh army with competent commanders, including some of those Europeans who,in "historical" time, were kicked out or killed.

Result: an Indian Isandhlwana?

Oh Bugger22 Apr 2016 2:43 p.m. PST

Oh yeah Hafen plenty of room for "What if's"!

Ranjit's idea of a pre dinner cocktail would fell a donkey.

Hafen von Schlockenberg22 Apr 2016 3:02 p.m. PST

I presume you've read the relevant Flashman book--"Mountain of Light"?

Oh Bugger22 Apr 2016 3:11 p.m. PST

Yeah more than once.

Hafen von Schlockenberg22 Apr 2016 5:10 p.m. PST

It was that, plus a couple of Don Featherstone's, that got me hooked. I'll have to get the Sidhu volume. Have you read his follow-up on the second war? And how about our fellow TMPer Andrew Preziosi's Sikh Wars Sourcebook? That one is pricey, but looks highly detailed,as we'd expect from a wargamer.

Oh Bugger23 Apr 2016 1:37 a.m. PST

I thought the second book had not yet appeared?

I did see an online discussion with Sidhu about how the Khalsa were armed in the second war. One lad was arguing, in a scholarly way. that the bulk had matchlocks not muskets. If so it would have cramped their style.

Andrew's book sounds interesting.

sjwalker3823 Apr 2016 2:31 a.m. PST

Sidhu's book on the Second Sikh War is published in June.

I don't think that Andrew's much-anticipated Sourcebook is available either, with no publication date given by Helion. Any news on this, Andrew?

Oh Bugger23 Apr 2016 2:35 a.m. PST

Good to know on Sidhu sj it will be a 'must have'.

Hafen von Schlockenberg23 Apr 2016 9:07 a.m. PST

Oops,didn't check for dates.

deflatermouse25 Apr 2016 2:54 a.m. PST

Fantastic sight.
I'm nearly done with my Khalsa infantry and artillery. Need to do Commands and cavalry.
Same for John Company.
Already had a couple of game with them using Piquet as the rules. One close run thing for the British and one bad loss after a roaring start.
Lovely painting. Thank you for sharing.

Oh Bugger25 Apr 2016 4:37 a.m. PST

Thanks Deflatermouse much appreciated.

Good to hear you have so much done. I love Piquet for these battles.

Keep us posted as you go.
