The game is scheduled for a week Saturday it will be interesting to see how it turns out. The actual battle was very bloody. |

I am part way through building a 28mm force for Sikh Wars, what rules are you using? |

Nice. The Old Glory Sikh Wars line, sculpted by Chris Hughes of Sash and Saber,is high on my Must Buy list. After you've done all the historical battles, here's a "what if" scenario to consider: Ranjit Singh repents his dissolute lifestyle, cleans himself up, and lives another 10-15 years, long enough to complete his reforms of the army and government. Though he wisely (as in reality) avoids provoking the British, they find,as with the Zulus in South Africa, the presence of a powerful state just across the border an intolerable situation. Thus, the Sutlej is crossed, not by the Sikhs, but by an Anglo-Egyptian army, marching to face a unified Sikh army with competent commanders, including some of those Europeans who,in "historical" time, were kicked out or killed. Result: an Indian Isandhlwana? |

Oh yeah Hafen plenty of room for "What if's"! Ranjit's idea of a pre dinner cocktail would fell a donkey. |

I presume you've read the relevant Flashman book--"Mountain of Light"? |

It was that, plus a couple of Don Featherstone's, that got me hooked. I'll have to get the Sidhu volume. Have you read his follow-up on the second war? And how about our fellow TMPer Andrew Preziosi's Sikh Wars Sourcebook? That one is pricey, but looks highly detailed,as we'd expect from a wargamer. |
Oh Bugger | 23 Apr 2016 1:37 a.m. PST |
I thought the second book had not yet appeared? I did see an online discussion with Sidhu about how the Khalsa were armed in the second war. One lad was arguing, in a scholarly way. that the bulk had matchlocks not muskets. If so it would have cramped their style. Andrew's book sounds interesting. |
sjwalker38 | 23 Apr 2016 2:31 a.m. PST |
Sidhu's book on the Second Sikh War is published in June. I don't think that Andrew's much-anticipated Sourcebook is available either, with no publication date given by Helion. Any news on this, Andrew? |
Oh Bugger | 23 Apr 2016 2:35 a.m. PST |
Good to know on Sidhu sj it will be a 'must have'. |

Oops,didn't check for dates. |

Fantastic sight. I'm nearly done with my Khalsa infantry and artillery. Need to do Commands and cavalry. Same for John Company. Already had a couple of game with them using Piquet as the rules. One close run thing for the British and one bad loss after a roaring start. Lovely painting. Thank you for sharing. |
Oh Bugger | 25 Apr 2016 4:37 a.m. PST |
Thanks Deflatermouse much appreciated. Good to hear you have so much done. I love Piquet for these battles. Keep us posted as you go. |
