Lovely work!
Perry figures?

Ha! Now there's a compliment!

They are Italeri plastic 1/72.

But they sure do look as good as any 28mm figs.

Very nice work, riders, mounts and bases. Thought for sure they were 28s.

When I see the quality of the paintwork on a lot of these 1/72nd plastics I am stunned. My memory of them is from 30-40 years ago – painted with enamels. I do remember one thing I did with airfix cavalry though – I stuck a pin up through the base and into the belly of the horse to give them a bit more rigidity than the tiny pins on the horse's hooves. I guess most are cast as a single piece now – base and horse together.

They are lovely.

If I was starting Napoleonics now, 1/72 would be my scale. A lot of great figures in both metal & plastic now available. I just don't have the inclination to do it all again.

I am reminded of an advert for a VW Golf. The buyers look at a series of cars and are told each has features as good as a Golf. So they then think, in that case, why not go for………

Even I, as a devotee of TOTS (The One True Scale) would agree, these are as good as the best 28mm. To be honest they are better. There is not a single decent 28mm Carabinier figure. The Perry heads do not compare with the plastic cuirassiers……..far too narrow in coronal plane. Front Rank beautifully cast, but leaning so far back they all look as though hit by canister. Never checked Foundry I admit……

1/72 and smaller scales eg 15/18mm are far better proportioned anatomically. Can never understand the left arms, though, on the newer plastics. I pray for separate castings of left arms…massive conversion potential, but very rare. However, none of these are holding reins surely. The guy with the carbine is more threat to his horse than anyone else.

Is there no officer in this range? He would have looked great in the copper coloured armour, lace work and the different saddlecloth.

That is my only criticism. You cannot fault the skill of the painting/mounting/basing. Such vibrant colours…great photography too! Best I have seen for this unit I think. Very striking….

I love the treatment of the paint on the hose's flanks. Works especially well with the blacks and whites, which I always struggle with!!

Geat looking figures full of action. @ Deadhead, I agree on the Front Rank carabiniers but the Foundry figures are real good (Perry design of course)

Very nice and clean. The Italeri figures were a breath of fresh air to the plastics market all those years ago. In my humble opinion, Zvezda have since surpassed them. PSR gives these guys a fair review. This paint job and bright basing makes them a very impressive unit. My congratulations sir.

Liam – the Italeri set does not come with an officer specific horse (the Zvezda cuirassiers does…), so the officer is distinguished by the lack of a belt. I keep thinking you need to try a box… (runs and hides)

Another great thing about 1/72 plastics is convertability. Take the heads off these figures, put them on Zvezda cuirassiers, turn them to face forward, and you have some truly fine figs.

Put the Zvezda heads on these bodies, and the results are still great, plus you've got a unit of cuirassiers like no other.
