How evil is it?

vtsaogames21 Apr 2016 12:15 p.m. PST

What is it?

Winston Smith21 Apr 2016 12:24 p.m. PST

I was never able to understand what "they" had against it.

Dave Jackson Supporting Member of TMP21 Apr 2016 12:24 p.m. PST

Something to do with the deterioration of your wardrobe, I'm sure

PrivateSnafu21 Apr 2016 1:09 p.m. PST

I'll reply in a year.

Must admit I rarely even spot it when it happens here – I don't tend to visit the individual boards much, just browse the homepage and search for myself by author to find threads I've recently posted to. Because of that, a thread raised from the dead as it were is unlikely to get my notice.

Onomarchos21 Apr 2016 1:31 p.m. PST

Not a real problem on TMP.

Personal logo javelin98 Supporting Member of TMP21 Apr 2016 1:35 p.m. PST

Since it doesn't bounce threads back to the homepage, I don't find it at all disruptive, and sometimes an old thread has great info in it that I'd missed the first time or just forgotten about.

Mako1121 Apr 2016 1:47 p.m. PST

I never find it to be a problem.

The Beast Rampant21 Apr 2016 1:48 p.m. PST

I am SO gonna bump this in six months.

Rise, my thrall, and serve your new master!

being the head Warlock…wouldn't you know of the evils?

Zephyr121 Apr 2016 2:38 p.m. PST

The only thing that ticks me off about it is almost replying again to a thread that I had already replied to. :-p

Two nanoHitlers..?

Mute Bystander21 Apr 2016 2:51 p.m. PST

Tis not evil but necessary at times!

tberry740321 Apr 2016 3:39 p.m. PST

And don't forget: "Klaatu Barado Nimumble!"

Bandolier21 Apr 2016 5:09 p.m. PST

I kinda like it. It brings up things I've forgotten about.

Grimmnar21 Apr 2016 6:51 p.m. PST

The way this site is set up i cant see how it would ever be a problem.

Tis good.

shelldrake21 Apr 2016 8:48 p.m. PST

I think it is ok, especially if it helps a fellow gamer get answers or new information contained within the thread.

daler240D22 Apr 2016 2:38 a.m. PST

it is one of the best features of keeping info available for people that were not around when the topic started. So…it is not evil at all.

jpattern222 Apr 2016 5:41 a.m. PST

I prefer to see a new thread started, linked to the old thread, if there's new information forthcoming. But thread necromancy doesn't bother me. either.

Winston Smith22 Apr 2016 6:23 a.m. PST

I don't see the need for a Poll. The discussion here is overwhelmingly in favor of necromancy, or at worst indifferent.

dapeters22 Apr 2016 12:35 p.m. PST

Bill is there a problem? Why would you say it's evil?

platypus01au22 Apr 2016 2:37 p.m. PST

Not evil, just misunderstood!

As a noob here I've pulled up older stuff to look at,but tried to avoid posting for fear of causing irritation. Sounds like maybe not as big a deal as I thought--within reason. How old does a thread have to be to be considered necromancy? A month? Six? Off the board?

Of course,"real" necromancy means raising the dead to ask them questions about the future, which isn't exactly what we're talking about here…

The G Dog Fezian23 Apr 2016 6:41 a.m. PST

Seriously?

How is this even a problem? It's one of the pluses of this site that you can find an old thread, and contribute something new to it.

If you don't want people posting to old threads turn off the ability to post to them.

Choctaw23 Apr 2016 2:51 p.m. PST

Hafen, you should feel free to post away on any topic that doesn't land you in the clink. If some people don't like it, they don't have to comment. How a hobby forum can cause so much annoyance for some folks is beyond me.

Hafen von Schlockenberg23 Apr 2016 5:08 p.m. PST

Thanks. But someone was complaining about Tango01 "taking up space" with his posts,so I wonder…

Didn't know cyberspace was in danger of running out of room!

Marc at work27 Apr 2016 6:18 a.m. PST

I like it – sometimes it brings back an interesting topic that needs refreshing

Personal logo Doms Decals Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Apr 2016 6:51 a.m. PST

To be fair I've seen it cause problems elsewhere, especially when someone resurrects a contentious topic, but the way TMP works it's far less of an issue.

Hafen von Schlockenberg27 Apr 2016 8:19 a.m. PST

Well,I wasn't thinking of going back through the Modern Boards and bringing up the "Should the US Cavalry Switch to Tanks?" thread…

HidaSeku27 Apr 2016 10:51 a.m. PST

I wish there was more thread necromancy on TMP.

Binky the Wonder Pig27 Apr 2016 3:50 p.m. PST

Makes you wonder what happened to Allen Curtis & others…………….

You know that a kitten dies every time someone necroposts, don't you?

I read that on the internet, so it must be true.

What is this necroposting, and how do I get in on it?
