Gents, I am looking for a good source of information to provide detail on what soft-skins, prime movers etc the Romanians used during WW2 along with details of any manufacturers that might make them in 20mm. I know they used a lot of vehicles purchased/captured from other countries and only want to use German kit, which is readily available, if I absolutely have to. I am after a more home-grown feel for my forces. Thanks for your help |

Shellhole Scenics have some Romanian transports, Praga trucks were used….. Have a look at these pics of Fords and French Lafflys in Romanian service…. link The Fords were assembled in Bucharest and look very much like the Fords assembled in Germany at the same time, the V3000 , available from Sgts Mess Minis.EWM have pretty good range of Laffly trucks from their French range…. |

From the same forum- 'I found an old copy of Wheels & Tracks which had an excellent article on Romanian vehicles. According to the article, at least the following manufacturers supplied truck type vehicles in the late 1930s and the war years. Ford US, 4X2 models 1938/39 of which many were converted to Marmon Herrington 4X4. Ford US models imported from Ford Dagenham (UK) Steyr vehicles from Austria Praga, Skoda and Tatra vehicles from Czechoslovakia. DKW motorcycles and Ford trucks from Germany.' ' |

The Fords weren't used as artillery tractors and were assembled in kit form at a local plant and were similar to German Fords but had distintive Rumainian cabs. The Rumanians also used Steyr trucks and Praha RN trucks as engineer vehicles and troop carriers respectively. Some Laffly S20 troop carriers were used as were Fiat 600 trucks and buses. As for artillery tractors the Skoda 6STP6L truck was used to tow 105mm and 155mm Schneiders, US made cab forward 4x6 Marmon Herringtons towed anti aircraft guns and the lighter artillery like the Skoda 75mm field guns were towed by horses. link |

This image shows the Romanian 2nd Tank Regiment:
The tanks were French R-35s. The trucks in the foreground are Lafflies, the trucks in the background are Renaults. Here is my own Romanian motorpool:
It is a mix primarily of French and German models, with a Fiat 600 and even a Polish field car thrown in for good measure. If more vehicles are needed, I fill in with Russian trucks. War-booty GAZ trucks were particularly prized by the Romanians, as the Malaxa factory (which did assembly of some Ford trucks as noted above) also provided spare parts for Ford trucks, and the Russian GAZ truck line was derived from the Ford Model-AA truck. I have seen some references that the Malaxa factory even did full rebuilds of GAZ trucks. So these were considered quite serviceable (vs. other war booty vehicles, which were often more of "use 'em till you loose 'em"). -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

Many thanks for all of the info. Does anyone know of any manufacturers who make the Skoda 6STP6L in 20mm? |

Not seen one, the snub nose cab is reminiscent of the Leyland Retriever……maybe a conversion project? One of the other big Skoda trucks looks like a Lancia 3ro……… |

"Not seen one, the snub nose cab is reminiscent of the Leyland Retriever" Gaz , I think you are referring to a Skoda 6 SD not the Skoda 6STP6L which had a long tall engine cowling. |

May have got my captions muddled! The long nose one is akin to the Lancia-just needs a shorter chassis and an extra axle! |
