I'm currently looking at the ORBATs for the French and at Company HQ of a combat company there are x4 12.5mm HMG's with associated VUTC > 2Ton.

Ive tried looking up this to no avail.

VU tends to mean Vehicle Utility (Special Purpose)
TC could mean Telecommande (remote Control) or Telecommunications.

Does anbody have an idea what these vehicles actually are?

Cosmic Reset21 Apr 2016 4:05 a.m. PST

Don't really know, but maybe the VPS or a version of the VLRA?

tmy 193921 Apr 2016 4:09 a.m. PST

Could be a variant of the ACMAT VLRA. Irishserb beat me to it.

VUTC means véhicule utilitaire tout chemin (Tout chemin= all tracks). It's probably a Peugeot P4, which is quite old now, and is replaced by a Ranger Ford from 2015.

Thanks Shaun that's probably more like it.

anytime andy, I have to study these things daily!
not sure what scale you want but possibly only availability in 300th!

Jcfrog21 Apr 2016 9:19 a.m. PST

Back in the old when we had a harmless comfortable identified enemy these were mounted on the trucks of the general support platoon.
Carrying ammo, spare parts, cushy beds for the ones with ranks, crates of wine etc.
purpoisedly AA as there was nearly no AA support.
Would bet it function the same today if that is the question.

Andy P22 Apr 2016 4:19 a.m. PST

Jc yes i was interested in why the .50 cal were located and was trying to find out were they a crew served weapon I.E dis mountable or was it in fact a vehicle weapon. My first thoughts was could they be VAB TOP?

Shaun i'm up for a 20mm version if you fancy adding to your range ;-)

ANDy

All companies have a supply detail of a few trucks and " jeeps" these have some 50 cal for defense and AA ( well in the 80s) even tanks. Of course unless in trouble you should not have them on table.

All VAB units have 50s and some 20mm. But nowadays nothing is standart, always bits of what is operable, patched up / err tailored up for a mission. Often with the new toys.
After the reduction(s) in size. Lot of this kind of stuff was in high supply. For ex some arty rgts had a choice of 155 or 120 Brandt depending on mission.

Now is more about what is able to work and ammo supply.

More info on the ORBATS it states >2T for the Coy HQ.
So i found a Doc which shows spefici vehicles for each.

2T TRM2000
> 2T Berliet GBC 8KT or Berliet GBC 180 (6T)
> 6T TRM 1000 (10T)

So for the HQ i am looking at possibly the Berliet's not the TRM's
