I am planning to run a campaign which will include logistics, food, ammo & pol.
I am trying to find out what level of ammuinition would be deemed adequate or normal.
In the early 80s, British doctrine was 100 rounds for an SLR armed infantryman, in 5 mags, 1 on the weapon, 4 in webbing pouches.
Are there any opinons out there as what the ammo supply for an infantryman or LMG crew should be?

100 rounds ball and 300 link for the GPMG. Couple of rounds for the mortar as well.

And they carried more, as much as they could, in their vehicles….you can never have too much ammo.

Veterans would carry as much ammo as they could carry. I've read that normally ten mags plus another six would be carried.

After the switch to 5.56mm, I'm under the impression that 200 – 220 rounds was pretty standard.

100 – 120 for 7.62mm rounds.

Not sure on the LMGs, but suspect it'd be hard to ever carry enough when you really need it.

Are we still talking about the SCW?

Is it modern or SCW/WW2 the question was about?

Not sure, since 1980s was mentioned in the original posting.
