Good afternoon folks. I know there has been some chatter on these boards regarding 10mm basing. As the subject title suggests I am beginning a new project in 10mm. The rules of choice are likely to be Beneath the Lily Banners and/or Pike and Shotte How might I best achieve the basing of these models (Pendraken) to have a diorama feel to them? |

May not suit your particular choice of rules, but our group has gone for Twilight of the Sunking rules and 60mm x 30mm bases. Two such bases make up a unit. I normally mount around 14 to 18 infantry figures per base, 6 cavalry and 5 mounted dragoons. |

60mmx30mm should be a good way to go. I have been working on a conversion of Beneath the Lily Banners to go with my Hexon terrain, and so I am probably going to base my 10mm figures on 50mmx20mm or even 50mmx15mm bases, so I can fit 2 in line in a hex. If you are playing on a non-hex table, then 60mmx30mm works well, especially if you are basing in three ranks. |

Would musket look any good in three ranks? I do like the idea of the 60 x 30. My original plan was for 40 x 20mm bases. Using a half hexagonal to represent the command stand at the regimental level and full hexagonal for a brigade or army command stand. I have ordered a pack of muskets and a pack of pike. The pike will be densely packed and sit behind the musketmen. |

120mm x 40mm (30mm as an option maybe) for me as that's what works for Baroque and it allows for a mass of figures. |

Hi Aksu, the link works but I cannot see your pictures. |

How you base your muskets is up to you, based on your preference and your wallet. For me, I am going with 2 ranks, as I can field more battalions based on the relative thinness of my wallet's current purchasing power. Were money no object, I'd base in 3 ranks. You may want to consider putting the pike on half-hexes. In BLB 2nd, the defense against cavalry formation is different than a regular line formation. With a moveable stand of pike, one can place the pikes in front of the line, to represent the defense against cavalry, and behind the line to represent a line with pikemen in it. I have a small army in 28mm, for BLB2, but have recently ordered some OG 10mm WSS figures, again meant for play on my collection of Hexon

Those WSS are nice, though (as always) I wish they would fill out the line--French Command, for instance. I picked up a couple packs of Pendraken LOA grenadiers to use for French dismounted dragoons. The tedious part for me is painting the flags--especially the Bavarians! But, practice makes "less imperfect"… Of course, now they're doing all the figures I wanted--in 18mm. |

Hi Justin, with the packs I've ordered I intend to conduct some tests. I like the idea of putting some pike on the half hexes. I'll probably go for a line of two ranks when it comes to the muskets. My wallet is thin too. @Hafen, are you referring to Blue Moon? |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 20 Apr 2016 4:52 p.m. PST |
Yep ,all the things I begged Russ for in 10mm--like campaign uniforms for AWI Brits, all the "Powers" for SYW--he's now doing with Blue Moon. And after getting me hooked on 10mm. It's diabolical(Sob…!) |

Thank you sirs for the compliments. There are chaps on the pendraken forum whose work is much much nicer than mine. Worth checking out the 2016 painting competition entries, Mr Kev1964 for example is a master. Cheers, Aksu |

Yes, I have taken a good look. I do wonder how much my eyes may bleed after painting the miniatures! |

I am planning on using Captain General by the Pike and Shot Society. Great rules. Here are some photos of a French unit in Rank firing basing 3cm deep by 4cm wide and a Dutch Battalion in Platoon firing which is 2cm deep by 4cm wide. Rank has only two bases while Platoon is based on three bases, both battlions have the same number of figures total. link William |

I base mine for FOG R, although I'll probably not use the rules. So infantry 40x20 (10 figs in 2 ranks) Infantry Regt. 40 Shot 6 Pike 5 Command inc drummer and 2 standards Total 51 foot per regiment Cavalry 40x30 4 figures per base Check my blog link |
